Everton FC Stadium: Liverpool council will 'continue to work towards a solution'Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson says the council is financially and legally constrained on helping fund new Everton stadium Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson said the city council will continue to work towards a stadium solution for Everton FC after the club said it has not yet secured the money to pay for a new ground. Everton wants to build a new ground in Walton Hall Park, but Elstone has said he will not risk the club’s long-term financial viability to build a new stadium. Writing in the programme notes for Sunday’s match against Tottenham Elstone pointed to the fact the club needs support from Liverpool council. Mayor Anderson said: “What Robert Elstone has said in his programme notes is that this is a financial problem that the club needs to resolve. “From the point of view of the city council there are financial and legal constraints that limit what we can do. “We are doing everything we can to support Everton moving forward and will continue to cooperate and work with the club in a positive way to find a solution for them and the city.” Echo

Everton FC stadium update will be issued in October says Liverpool mayor Joe AndersonTalks on the plans for Walton Hall Park are ongoing the Labour leader has revealedLiverpool mayor Joe Anderson will issue an update on plans for a new Everton FC stadium on Walton Hall Park by October. Last year Everton confirmed they wanted to quit their Goodison Park home to move the short distance up the road, in order to increase capacity and operate from a modern stadium that would generate more revenue. At the end of last season the club’s chief executive Robert Elstone said the club would “scrutinise” funding before progressing with the ground move. Mayor Anderson was asked on Twitter whether he could give an update on what was happening with the stadium. He said: “We’re still talking and I will one way or other have something to say by end of October.” Google Maps view showing Walton Hall Park and Goodison Park Stadium. He told the ECHO the council was still in talks with Everton FC. He said: “I’m not prepared to keep people in the dark for longer than that. “I haven’t got to the stage where I’m setting a deadline on a decision but we will simply be giving people an update on what’s happening in October.” The proposed development on the park would see Everton build a 50,000-seater stadium, while 1,000 new homes and 30,000 square metres of leisure, retail and restaurant space would also built on the land. Mayor Anderson has previously said it could create more than 1,000 jobs. Campaign groups Friends of Walton Hall Park and Save Walton Hall Park were formed to oppose the plans.

Statement from Mayor Joe Anderson: Everton FC Stadium DevelopmentThe city council and Everton FC are still engaged in discussions about plans to develop a scheme at Walton Hall Park. I am disappointed that at this stage we have not reached agreement on a tangible proposition for a new stadium and, more importantly, a scheme which delivers comprehensive regeneration benefits for the area and employment opportunities for the wider community. It has been over 12 months since my initial announcement and I recognise the level of public interest in this site. I would like to thank people for their patience whilst discussions are ongoing and I will look to make a final announcement in the new year. I reiterate my commitment that any scheme brought forward, which has my support, will represent the best interests of residents and supporters alike. Joe Anderson Mayor of Liverpool
