Everton is to recruit 500 new stewards as part of the Club's plans for moving to its new waterfront stadium next summer. The successful applicants for the casual positions will support the safety and supporter liaison operation on home matchdays and at other stadium events. Everton’s current stewarding operation at Goodison Park requires around 500 stewards, with the efforts to double that number kickstarting what will be the biggest recruitment drive in the Club’s recent history. Casual matchday positions on offer will include crowd and accessibility stewards, safeguarding stewards, and other roles fundamental to the matchday operation and Club efforts to deliver best-in-class fan experiences. A search for customer service advisors and premium relationship managers began last month, with more vacancies to be advertised at www.evertonstadium.com/joinourteam in the coming months. As part of the recruitment process, applicants for the stewarding positions will be invited to assessment days taking place between November 2024 and January 2025. Training, and a process to familiarise successful applicants with the new stadium, will then begin prior to a series of three test events at the Club’s new 52,888-capacity arena next year. Alix Waldron, Everton’s Director of New Stadium Development, said: “As well as being a hugely significant project for the Football Club, we have said from the very beginning that the new stadium would be a major boost for the city. “We’ve seen that in the thousands of local contractors who have helped turn a derelict dock into a magnificent new stadium and we’re now at the point where we’re readying ourselves to move in and begin playing games next summer. “Ensuring we have the workforce in place to safely and effectively deliver matchdays and events at Everton Stadium is among the final major steps we need to take, and we’re excited to be able to begin offering up opportunities for local people to be a part of this journey.” In August, Everton announced it had teamed up with Aramark, one of the world’s leading food service providers, in a deal that will help turn Everton Stadium into “one of the most revolutionary and advanced venues for fan experience in Europe". Ongoing recruitment will see Everton and its partners offer hundreds more positions in areas including catering, customer service and operations ahead of next summer’s move. Scott McLeod, Everton's director of communications and engagement, and Mike Gittins, head of data science and insight, have spoken to BBC Radio Merseyside about the process for season ticket holders at Goodison Park to secure their seats at the club's new stadium next season. Q: There will be people who sit in the Gwladys Street or wherever, wanting that "home stand" feel - but is it important to remember that it's a much bigger capacity, and even if you're not in that first section of fans that can get their season tickets, you've still got a good chance of getting in that home end? Gittins: Based on our forecasts, the last season ticket holder to pick their seat at the new stadium will have 12,000-15,000 seats available for them to pick from. That home end is significantly bigger than the Gwladys Street at the moment. So we're really confident that once season ticket holders get their opportunity to purchase, they will have a full range of options to pick from. Q: If you're in a group, what does that mean? You might have had your ticket for 15 years but somebody who you go with might have had it a bit less. What happens then? McLeod: In order to protect the tenure and manage it in a fair way, if you've had a season ticket for 15 years, you've got a friend who has had one for 10 years and another friend who has had one for five years, in order to sit together, you need to wait until the friend with the lowest tenure is eligible to buy. You will still have thousands of seats to choose from. But for those groups, we will manage that in a way that allows the person with the lowest tenure to be the key individual in that group purchase. Over the past two years, the insight team have conducted a number of surveys which tens of thousands of Evertonians have taken part in, that have helped shape and inform the way we have modelled this process, with the number one priority being fairness and ensuring everybody who is making the move to the new stadium is managed in a fair and balanced way. www.bbc.co.uk/spor

Everton Stadium’s world-class playing surface is undergoing its final, dramatic transformation.
The synthetic stitching of millions of fibres into the newly-laid top soil is under way, using specialised machinery that will slowly work its way across the pitch.
That intensive process follows grass seeds recently being sown and covered, periodically, with a germination blanket to protect the seeds, allow light and water to penetrate and warm the soil to accelerate growth.
The hard-wearing synthetic fibres, which will cover around 5 per cent of the pitch area, are designed to interlock with the growing grass to provide stability, strength and longevity to the hybrid, SIS grass surface.
Behind the scenes, final touches are also being made to the functional, ultra-modern home dressing room.
The spacious, circular sanctum, in the west stand, now has a hard-wearing floor installed along with all the players’ individual booths, complete with locker space.
A giant Everton crest, embedded in the roof space, has also received its top coat of royal blue paint, to complete the impressive installation.
The bright and airy players’ tunnel is also close to completion, with lighting, flooring and ventilation now fitted to complement the chevroned ceiling.
The stadium concourses, which are steadily being fitted with wayfinding signs, also have television screens fitted at regular intervals, including above the food and drink kiosks.
In total, there are well over 600 screens fitted around the four stands, including in all premium spaces.
Everton Stadium will be officially handed over to the club by the end of 2024, following a three-and-a-half-year build.
The internal fit-out of all premium spaces will then take place, with test events commencing early in 2025, before the club plays its first competitive fixture at its new home next August.
