Bit of a 'Curate's Egg' season. Some of it has been superb (Chelsea) and some of it has been awful (Man U), but by and large I think we're above where the doom-mongers predicted when the fixtures came out, and the challenge is now to kick on against the so-called weaker teams. However, the reality is that apart from Sunderland who have looked awful all season, all Premier League teams have looked capable of beating anyone else. Who expected Villa to get anything against City? We need to keep up the intensity all season of course, but in particular from now until the end of 2015, and that's when we can judge what is possible. Highs so far: the form of Lukaku more consistent; the form of Barkley certainly; Deulofeu's crosses; Stones form; Funes Mori slotting in and looking the biz; Barry back to his best; Kone having a significant impact too; development of the young players; Cleverly's form before the injury. Lows: inability to defend crosses in to our box; inability to put a decent cross in to an opposition box; Naismith's inability to pass, despite his excellent hat-trick that should have revitalised his confidence; Galloway is sound but he's no Leighton Baines or Luke Garbutt and can't go outside a player; Coleman's in/out form; McGeady has lost it for me; still too many injuries; missing Pienaar as an impact sub now probably; and finally for me, hate to say it, but Tim Howard's keeping looks like this has to be his last season for us. Chelsea have been done 7 times now so I class that as just fortunate. Stones has been up and down too as has Barkley, but we only remember the good bits. Kone has had 2 good games and fans are drooling saying he is wonderful, so overall we never look at things from an even keel. I put most things down to our manager, and his seemingly "doesn't have a clue" coaching style that looks like the players make it up as they go. We have no shape, don't attack or defend well in comparison to the leagues best teams, and rarely have a plan B. I view Martinez as lucky more than skilled, and although our fixture list was tricky, the teams we played haven't played that well, yet we have not taken our opportunities. It's been an unusual season for many teams but our season seems to be very similar to last year, in that the points tally is exactly the same.

I don't see why we couldn't have beaten West Ham United. We were nothing like the team that attacked Sunderland.

We try to adapt to suit other teams instead of letting them adapt to suit us.

Good read. I don't know if the poster is a regular but what does he think of our season so far? Bit of a 'Curate's Egg' season. I want more from Lukaku and Barkley. Everybody is positive about Lukaku but he has only scored in 5 of our 12 league games and although it's still a good strike rate he definitely has good days and bad days, and Barkley is the same. Howard is not 100 percent focussed on the job and too many other things going on so needs to move on, but unfortunately he was given a big contract.
