Everton Ladies were unable to return to winning ways on Saturday as they fell 1-0 to Yeovil Town. The only goal of the game came shortly after half time when Helen Bleazard’s corner curled in at the near post and - in a contest of few chances - it was enough to give the visitors all three points. Everton had started brightly at the Select Security Stadium in Widnes, with wingers Lucy Whipp and Emily Hollinshead causing problems on either flank. Just before the 15-minute mark, Hollinshead outmuscled her marker and showed a superb turn of pace but her curling shot floated inches wide from distance after a mazy, driving run. The nex chance of note fell to the visitors when Corinne Yorston latched onto a through ball from Steph Williams and forced a fine low save from Blues' stopper Megan Walsh. Everton pushed on late in the first half with Whipp again in among the action as she showed blistering pace to beat Yeovil full-back Ellie Isaac before firing just wide. The pressure from the Toffees continued as Hollinshead blasted narrowly over following a scramble in the Glovers' penalty area. However, Yeovil, against the run of play, almost got themselves in front just before the break. Annie Heatherson drove into the Everton box but was denied by a fantastic covering block from Gabby George to remove the danger. Whipp, a constant thorn in Yeovil’s side, continued to threaten after the restart and another tricky run resulted in an Everton penalty appeal for handball but the cries for a spot-kick fell on deaf ears. Yeovil took the lead five minutes after half time in bizarre circumstances when Bleazard curled a corner directly into the back of the net. Everton almost got back into the match straight away but Magill’s goalbound shot was well blocked by Glovers’ defender Nicola Cousins. Few chances fell in the middle period of the second half as the game descended into a battle of the midfield. The hosts pushed late on, with skipper Michelle Hinnigan stinging the hands of Charlotte Haynes, but they could not find the equaliser. Everton Ladies' next fixture is away at Oxford United on Sunday 24 May.
