None of the five Everton players currently out on loan tasted victory with their temporary clubs this weekend. John Lundstram, in his 13th appearance for Blackpool, could not prevent the Championship’s bottom club from slipping to their 10th defeat in the league the season. The midfielder played the full 90 minutes at the Madejski Stadium as Jose Riga’s side took on Reading, but the Tangerines fell to a 3-0 defeat – one of the goals coming from former Everton defender Peter Clarke, who diverted into his own net on 70 minutes. Elsewhere, it was a weekend to remember for Courtney Duffus, who made his professional debut in Bury’s 1-1 away draw with Southend United. The 19-year-old striker signed for the Shakers on loan until January earlier this week and went straight into the starting line-up, completing 59 minutes of his debut for the League Two outfit. Matthew Kennedy got his first taste of the Edinburgh derby as Alan Stubbs’ Hibernian side took on Hearts at Easter Road. The winger was introduced for the closing six minutes with Hibs leading their arch-rivals by a solitary Dominique Malonga goal on the stroke of half-time. But an effort from Hearts’ Alim Ozturk – deep into injury-time – earned the visitors a share of the spoils. Meanwhile, Hallam Hope was named as a substitute for Sheffield Wednesday Championship clash with Norwich. The forward was not used, however, as the Owls fell to a 1-0 home defeat at Hillsborough. It was a similar story for goalkeeper Connor Hunt, who was again an unused substitute in Chesterfield’s 1-0 away defeat at Walsall.
