Everton’s proposed 777 takeover is now at risk as the American partners have yet to provide a copy of their financial records to the FCA, after it was requested at the start of October. Everton’s potential owners insist Toffees’ fans do not need to worry about reports claiming their takeover is on the rocks.
Supporters on the blue side of Merseyside have been desperate for a new set of owners to takeover from Farhad Moshiri. They thought they had just got that as American venture capitalists 777 Partners reportedly signed an agreement to takeover the club in September.
Nevertheless, reports across the pond claimed the Blues’ takeover hopes had been dealt a huge blow. In reaction to these articles, Josh Wander of 777 partners did his best to reassure fans. A report from the New York Times claimed the Miami-based firm’s takeover had stalled. It said the company were unable to provide audited financial documents to a government regulator for them to approve the deal.
The report added: "If the company does not provide the requested financials or an acceptable explanation, its proposed takeover of Everton — a deal involving hundreds of millions of dollars in assumed debt and a coveted place in the world’s richest soccer league — could fall apart." In response to the claims, Wander has made it clear that they believe the takeover process is moving as planned. “We have submitted all relevant documentation to the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) in line with their requests and indicative timings," the statement read. “The regulatory processes in relation to the proposed acquisition of Everton Football Club need to be allowed the proper time and space to run their course in private." It is not the first time Wander has found himself communicating with Everton supporters via an open letter or statement. He recently made his first trip to Goodison Park to watch Everton fall to a damaging 2-1 home defeat to Luton Town. However, amid his trip to Merseyside, other reports were circulating regarding their potential takeover. In a letter to the supporters of the club, he said: "We recognise that change can be unsettling.
"We also acknowledge that there have been a number of misleading and concerning reports in media which have created a perception of instability and unrest around our proposed purchase. Rest assured, in this case, that the truth is far more boring than the fiction."
