verton Football Club will continue to support the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC)’s Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal at this weekend’s fixture with Leeds United at Goodison Park.
Everyone at Everton has been left deeply saddened by the destruction and huge loss of life as a result of the earthquakes. More than 40,000 people are now known to have died with many more injured, missing or displaced. Hospitals and schools are among the countless buildings to have collapsed and, with freezing winter conditions hitting both countries, humanitarian needs are expected to grow in the coming days.
DEC charities and their local partners are among the first responders, providing urgent help.
Immediate priorities are search and rescue, medical treatment for the injured, shelter for those who have lost their homes, heating in a safe space, blankets, warm clothes and ensuring people have food and clean water.
Evertonians can support people affected by the crisis by making a donation and helping raise money for the DEC appeal. This will allow DEC charities and their local partners to scale up their response to more people.
£10 could provide blankets to keep two people warm
£25 could provide emergency food for a family for ten days
£50 could provide emergency shelter for two families
Promotion of all the ways in which donations can be made will appear on the big screen during Everton’s matchday with Leeds United on Saturday (18 February).
As well as big screen information, Vera Clinic has donated their LED time to raise awareness of the humanitarian efforts taking place across Turkey and Syria.
The Club’s Official Hair Transplant Partner, who operate their main hub in Istanbul, have been deeply affected by the tragedy.
Vera Clinic and its staff have already invested in and donated materials and finances to support with the relief and humanitarian effort. Staff members from Vera Clinic have also visited the affected region to support those directly impacted on the ground.
Everton has a long-standing relationship with DEC after the Club supported the ‘Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal’ on its sleeve last season during Premier League matches and a £500,000 donation – consisting of a £250,000 club donation, matched generously by Chairman Bill Kenwright and majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri.
Earlier this week the Club confirmed, alongside city neighbours Liverpool Football Club, that shirts from the recent Merseyside derby would be signed and auctioned to raise funds for the DEC appeal.
The thoughts of everyone at Everton Football Club and Vera Clinic continue to be with all those affected and impacted by the earthquake.
