Everton Football Club can confirm the appointment of Sean Dyche as the Club’s new Men’s Senior Team Manager. Dyche has agreed a two-and-a-half-year contract until June 2025 and will take charge for the first time for the Blues’ Premier League clash against Arsenal at Goodison Park on Saturday 4 February. One of the Premier League’s most respected and experienced managers, Dyche will be supported by former Nottingham Forest winger Ian Woan as his Assistant Manager, ex-England international Steve Stone as First-Team Coach, and Mark Howard, who will support the provision of sports science. All three members of staff previously worked with Dyche at Burnley. Dyche said: “It’s an honour to become Everton manager. My staff and I are ready and eager to help get this great club back on track. “I know about Everton’s passionate fanbase and how precious this club is to them. We’re ready to work and ready to give them what they want. That starts with sweat on the shirt, effort and getting back to some of the basic principles of what Everton Football Club has stood for for a long time. “We want to bring back a good feeling. We need the fans, we need unity and we need everyone aligned. That starts with us as staff and players. “Our aim is to put out a team that works, that fights and wears the badge with pride. The connection with the fans can then grow very quickly because they’re so passionate. “There is quality in this squad. But we have to make them shine. That’s the job of me and my staff. “We want to change the shape of this club going forward, remodel it in our style, but in a way that we can win. That's the task in front of us - make sure we're building, tactically and technically, giving players organisation, allow them the freedom to play, to go and enjoy their football because it's brilliant when the team's playing with a smile, but we've got to win.” After a playing career as a centre-back spanning nearly two decades, Dyche first became a coach at Watford, working his way up from the club’s under-18s to senior-team manager and guiding the Hornets to their best league position in four years in his first season in charge. It was during almost 10 years at Burnley where Dyche made his name as a top-class manager, building a competitive and energetic team that won promotion from the Championship in a record-breaking maiden campaign in 2013/14 and going on to consistently challenge the Premier League’s elite – the highlight a seventh-placed finish in 2017/18 and qualification for the Europa League. Everton Chairman Bill Kenwright said: “Kevin and I spent some valuable time with Sean over the past few days and he quickly convinced me that he has exactly the right attributes to make himself a great Everton manager – and a man who could inspire our fanbase. And Farhad felt the same when he met him, too.”

Sean Dyche Profile PageOne of the Premier League’s most respected and experienced managers, Sean Dyche was appointed Everton Men’s Senior Team Manager in January 2023. Known for being a robust and steely defender during his playing days, Dyche started his career within the youth ranks at Nottingham Forest before making the switch to Chesterfield in 1990. During seven years with the Derbyshire side, Dyche became somewhat of a club legend. He eventually became captain en route to racking up more than 250 appearances, with arguably his finest moment for the Spireites coming when he scored in the 1997 FA Cup semi-final against Middlesbrough, putting his side 2-0 up in an eventual 3-3 draw. Later in the summer of that year, Bristol City signed Dyche and he played a key role in helping the club gain promotion to the Championship during his first season. That was a feat also achieved at Millwall in 2001. He and the Lions came close to a Premier League place the following year, but the London club lost to eventual promotion winners Birmingham City in the play-offs. Dyche also enjoyed spells with Watford and Northampton Town before his retirement in 2007. His coaching journey began at Watford that same year where he worked his way up from under-18s coach to eventual senior-team manager, guiding the Hornets to their best league position in four years in his first season in charge. Dyche and Watford parted ways in 2012 and, following a brief spell working under Stuart Pearce within England’s Under-21s, Dyche was announced as Burnley's new boss in October 2012. It was during what was nearly a decade in charge of the Lancashire club that Dyche truly showcased his abilities as a top-class manager. His Burnley team were renowned for having a strong work-ethic and team spirit, which was key to winning promotion from the Championship in a record-breaking maiden campaign in 2013/14 and then consistently challenging the Premier League’s elite. Dyche’s standout achievement at Turf Moor was undoubtedly securing a top-seven finish – Burnley's highest ever in the Premier League - in 2017/18 and subsequent qualification for the Europa League. NEW MANAGER SETS OUT PLANS FOR EVERTON
New Everton manager Sean Dyche has laid out his immediate priorities to instil a strong work-ethic into his squad while reintroducing a “winning mentality” at the Club.
The highly-regarded boss built his reputation at Burnley where, in a tenure spanning nearly 10 years, he turned the Clarets into a robust and competitive side that regularly bloodied the noses of the Premier League's elite.
Speaking in his first interview since his appointment as Blues manager, Dyche revealed he wants to replicate many of those positive traits at Goodison Park, calling them “basic principles” of Everton Football Club.
He’s also disclosed his excitement at the challenge ahead and admitted he will be expecting his players to be ready to “work hard” from the very start of his reign.
“What I would say is we want to put out a team that works, that can fight and wear the badge with pride, beyond just the tactical and technical side,” Dyche told evertontv.
“Of course, they're massive parts of the game but - I've got to learn this - the feel of the fans here, they don't mind the ball being put at risk or playing forward.
“But they want people who are going to work and run. So, I've got to put that in.
“It's not that it's not there, but I've got to imprint my feeling and my style on it and that's part of what I do.
“Hopefully, with a bit of hard work from my staff and the players, we can reignite that passion of the fans because it's still there, you've seen it.”
With plenty of work to do this season in order to climb up the table and away from danger, Dyche detailed the importance of the role Evertonians can play in the team’s success, but also acknowledged the onus will be on him and his team to give them plenty to shout about.
“The relationship with the fans is very important, especially for me,” says Dyche. “I am under no illusions, I have to earn my right here as a manager, and many have done it.
“You don’t come into a club and get a free start. I have to show them what I am about, what I can deliver, but then you actually have to deliver it.
“That takes time. You have to get the team working in the way that I think is appropriate to win games. That’s the mentality I want to build here: a winning mentality.
“We have to fast track that, though. But I know I have to earn my right. I am going to work hard with my staff to make sure the team has that winning mentality.
“We have to build it, we have to work hard for it, and then that’s when the quality starts coming out.
“At the start, we have to get to that organised feel, build a gusto in the team and make it visual so the fans can link in very quickly.
He added: “We need to give something back to the fans, they are desperate for that, they want to cheer the team, they want to get behind them. But we have to give them something to grip hold of.”
With passion for the shirt and a hunger to deliver for Evertonians from his players, Dyche admits he will be versatile with his tactical approach in a bid to provide an effective winning style.
“I want us to be a team who gives the lot,” he added. “But it is not all built on that, I want us to play with a style, but an effective style.
“We want to be effective. We want to mix up play and ask questions of the opposition.
“We also want to add quality to that hard work, and there is some quality here, there are no two ways about it.
“I have come up against these players, and I know some of them personally - there is quality here.
“But we have to make them shine. That’s the job of me and the staff: allow them the freedom to shine while giving the organisation to be in a game to win it.”
