Everton defender Kyle John has signed a new contract

Everton defender Kyle John has signed a new contract with the Club, penning a two-year deal with the Blues until June 2024.

John, 21, joined Everton aged six and has made consistent progress throughout his time in the Academy.

An accomplished right-back who combines diligent defending with the ability to make important attacking contributions, John has established himself as a key player for Everton Under-21s in recent years.

He has also trained regularly with the Everton First Team this season and was part of matchday squads for the Blues’ Premier League games against Southampton and Manchester United.

“I’m so proud to sign this contract for this great club,” John told evertontv.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to work hard and getting to where I need to be.

“With Frank Lampard as the manager, he likes to bring young players through, and I like the way he plays.

“I’ve been here for a long time and Everton means everything to me. It is like home.

“I’m committed to giving everything I can to give back to the Club.

“This season, I’d like to make my First-Team debut and get some minutes. That’s my goal.”

John says working with Everton’s senior players at close quarters has helped him to significantly progress his game.

He revealed how he has particularly benefited from the guidance of fellow right-back and Club captain Seamus Coleman.

“There’s no-one better to learn from,” he said. “His advice and support have been top-notch over the years.

“He speaks to me about things like positioning, awareness and how to calm myself down in certain situations. The belief he’s given to me through positive comments has also meant a lot.

“I can’t thank him enough.

“The whole squad makes me feel welcome when I go up there [to the First Team] to train. The atmosphere is the best it’s ever been.”

Everton Director of Football, Kevin Thelwell, added: "Kyle's progress with us from the age of six has been clear and consistent – and we're very pleased to be able to help him continue his journey towards First-Team football."
