Everton fell to their second defeat of the season as Chelsea left Walton Hall Park victorious in a 3-1 result for the visiting side.
The two clubs headed into Sunday's encounter with similar records, both losing their opening games but recorded back-to-back wins heading into the international break.
Brian Sorensen's side began the contest well and took the game to the reigning Barclays Women's Super League champions and were perhaps unfortunate to head into the interval a goal behind.
A moment of quality from Guro Reiten saw the Chelsea winger swing the ball into Pernille Harder who headed past Courtney Brosnan to gain the lead.
Despite the setback, the Blues picked up from where they left off in the second half and found a well earned equaliser.
Hanna Bennison played a free kick into the box from the left side to find Megan Finnigan inside the area. The English defender headed the ball into the path of Gabby George whose first time shot was saved by Ann-Katrin Berger but collided off Kadeisha Buchanan to arrive in the Chelsea net.
Everton's celebrations however were short lived as the visitors were awarded a penalty five minutes later.
Reiten appeared to be fouled by Brosnan inside the box as the referee awarded the spot kick.
Harder stepped up to take and placed the ball into the bottom right corner for her and Chelsea's second of the afternoon.
The hosts continued to press and seek a second equaliser, but those hopes were extinguished late into injury time.
Substitute Niamh Charles broke away on the counter to finish past Brosnan to seal the three points for the London side.
Everton are back in action next weekend when they travel to face Aston Villa on Saturday 22 October.
