Dele Alli’s performances for Turkish side Besiktas have once again been criticised by coach Senol Gunes, after the on-loan midfielder suffered a humiliating snub last night. Dele was left on the bench for Besiktas’ last-16 Turkish Cup tie against Ankaragucu, which the Istanbul side lost on penalties after a 1-1 draw at full-time.
Speaking to the media after the game, Besiktas manager Senol Gunes admitted that the on-loan Everton player has not earned a place in his team.
“Dele Alli has had a good career, but he doesn’t deserve to play at the moment,” Gunes said, in the latest of a series of scathing reviews for the former England international. “I couldn’t affect the players” Gunes stated.
“Now I can easily touch them, but we haven’t touched Dele Alli yet. Let’s not discuss Dele Alli as a player, but he is below expectations in terms of efficiency.”
The former Spurs man also suffered an embarrassing first-half substitution just last month, leaving the field after 28 minutes to a chorus of boos from the Besiktas fans in a Turkish Cup clash against third division side Sanliurfaspor.
Dele’s time in Istanbul has gone from bad to worse and a second opportunity for him to resurrect his stalled career has been squandered.
His January 2022 switch to Goodison Park afforded the 26-year-old a chance to re-establish himself in a side crying out for a player with his creative awareness, though his brief time on Merseyside didn’t work out and Frank Lampard decided to offload him in the summer transfer window.
For a player of such obvious ability, it is extremely frustrating to see it wasted, especially with the Toffees in dire need of a creative midfielder, however Dele’s once promising career appears to be all but over in his mid-twenties.

Dele Alli has been warned that his next step will be the Championship if he cannot make a success of his loan deal from Everton to Besiktas.
Alli joined the Turkish side on loan in the summer when it was made clear that he was not a part of Frank Lampard’s plans moving forwards.
He initially joined the Toffees from Tottenham in January last year but failed to make any significant impact as they battled against relegation in the season run in He was subsequently shipped out to Besiktas but has flopped in the Super Lig, struggling to get his career back on track and putting in a series of disappointing performances.
Besiktas have been keen to get rid of him early as a result but that is something Everton are not interested in, preferring to leave him in Turkey until the summer before dealing with the situation then.
It means Alli will need to work to get himself back into Besiktas’ plans, with journalist Gökmen Özcan sending a warning to the Everton loanee.
“Dele Alli’s last chance is Besiktas,” he tweeted.
“Everton don’t want him to return. If he fails here, his next route will be Championship. I hope he acts with the awareness of this and makes the most of this opportunity.”

Dele Alli will find himself at a crossroads when considering his next move at the end of the season, upon his return to Everton after his loan spell with Turkish side Besiktas. The former England international was once regarded as one of the country's best young prospects in the early stages of his career but is now a far cry from the player he was after falling off the map in recent years. The 26-year-old's stock began to fall at an alarming rate when Jose Mourinho was appointed to replace Pochettino at Spurs, with the Portuguese boss failing to get the midfielder firing on all cylinders in spite of his best efforts. Alli made just 15 appearances in the Premier League throughout the 2020/21 campaign and was unable to return to his former heights under the guidance of Nuno Espirito Santo the following season, while the subsequent arrival of Antonio Conte also did little to aid his hopes of a return to prominence at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It seemed clear that Alli's days at Tottenham were numbered and his inevitable departure eventually came just two months after Conte's appointment when he was shipped out to Everton on a free transfer last January. The switch marked a great opportunity for Alli to make a fresh start by rediscovering his form of old in a totally fresh environment, although he once again failed to live up to expectations as the Toffees ultimately survived the threat of Premier League relegation by the skin of their teeth. Everton boss Frank Lampard went on to decide that Alli needed a loan move elsewhere as he would not be in line to feature for the Merseyside club this season, which saw him sent out to Besiktas until the end of the campaign. He has continued to underwhelm on a consistent basis in Turkey, though, leaving his career at a crossroads at the age of just 26 as he ponders what lies ahead for him in advance of next season and beyond. It remains to be seen where Alli will go from here, with the playmaker set to return to Goodison Park later this year when he will have just 12 months remaining on his contract at Everton. Another loan move could be among the options on the table as he desperately seeks another chance to reignite his career, although there are no guarantees that any top clubs will be prepared to take a gamble on him given his distinct lack of form over the last few seasons. www.express.co.uk/sport/footbal

Dele Alli has broken his silence to deny claims made by the Besiktas manager that he went AWOL.
On Wednesday, Besiktas boss Senol Gunes sensationally claimed the on-loan Everton man has gone missing after failing to turn up for training.
Gunes said: “Dele Alli could not come at this time. It's raining, I guess that's why he couldn't come.
“We're trying to hear from him. We could not reach him by phone. Hopefully, he didn't have an accident.” On the back of the claims, it was reported by The Echo that Alli’s agent confirmed he was given permission to travel to London for a medical appointment.
Later on in the evening, Alli posted a message on his Instagram to deny Gunes’ claims.
The 26-year-old wrote: “Hey guys just had loads of messages so wanted to clear something up.
“The club gave me permission to attend a doctor's appointment today. I'm due back in training tomorrow as normal.”
Alli’s time in Turkey with Besiktas has been nothing short of a disaster so far. Back in January, the former Tottenham Hotspur man was criticised by his manager, who said: “Dele Alli has had a good career, but he doesn't deserve to play at the moment.” Having previously said: “Let’s not discuss Dele Alli as a player, but he is below expectations in terms of efficiency.”
With his loan deal set to expire at the end of the 22/23 season, it is almost certain that Alli will return to Everton as Besiktas currently have no interest in making the loan deal permanent.
So far this season, Alli has made a total of 17 appearances for Besiktas across all competitions, scoring only three goals and has no assists to his name.
Can Alli recapture the form he showed during his first few years at Spurs? Only time will tell.
