Everton are in talks to replace Rangers in the Sydney Super Cup in November, according to a report. Frank Lampard’s side could be set to take part in the controversial four-team tournament and face Celtic later this year. Event organisers have been searching for a household draw after the Ibrox club decided to withdraw from the glamour friendly competition Down Under. Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side were due to face their Glasgow rivals at the Accor Stadium in front of 83,000 supporters as part of a historic first overseas Old Firm clash. Both Old Firm clubs were scheduled to join Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers, but Rangers pulled out of the competition back in March, citing the failure of organisers to “fulfil their commitments” to the club. According to Australian outlet Kick360, Everton are now in pole position to complete the line-up, with the Toffees set to take on the Scottish Premiership champions. The Sydney Super Cup had been branded as a homecoming tour for Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou, which caused uproar among large sections of the Rangers fanbase and led to several protests at matches last season. Light Blues Commercial Executive James Bisgrove outline their participation would earn the club over £2million, but organsisers hit back at their decision to withdraw, claiming it was due to fan pressure. Co-promoters of the tournament TEG Sport and Left Field Live said: “We were disapoointed to wake up this morning to Rangers FC’s statement that it will not be participating in the Sydney Super Cup. “The Rangers board committed to these matches following extensive negotiations over eight months. Seemingly in response to negaitive fan reaction, they have pulled out of their contracted commitment. “We have worked closely with all stakeholders to bring this exciting event to Sydney and we refute any suggestion that we were unwilling to fulfil our commitments to Rangers. “We have acted in good faith and have put the event on sale with a great response from fans here.” A statement appeared on the promotional page for the Sydney Super Cup on Sunday night, which stated: “History will be made in Sydney this November in the newly created Sydney Super Cup. Updated details to be announced soon!” The tournament is due to take place between November 16-20. www.glasgowworld.com/sport

Can you imagine the cost of flying a squad to Australia, especially given the fact they only travel in style?
We're supposed to be skint, so are the tournament organisers paying for it all?

EVERTON TO PLAY IN SYDNEY SUPER CUP
Everton will play two fixtures in Australia as part of the inaugural Sydney Super Cup in November.
The Blues are taking part in the newly-created tournament, alongside reigning Scottish champions Glasgow Celtic and Western Sydney Wanderers.
Sydney’s Accor Stadium will host the exciting match-up between Frank Lampard’s side and the Hoops on Sunday 20 November (kick-off 8.05pm AEST / 11.05am BST).
The fixture is the headline of a three-match series that also sees the Blues take on Western Sydney Wanderers on Wednesday 23 November at CommBank Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm AEST / 10.45am BST).
Everton’s game with Western Sydney Wanderers will close the competition and could see the Blues come up against Academy graduate and ex-Toffee Jack Rodwell, who joined the Sydney-based club in November.
The Sydney Super Cup starts with Celtic launching the tournament against Sydney FC on Thursday 17 November at the newly- opened Sydney Football Stadium.
The games, which take place during the winter break for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, launch the new Sydney Super Cup; a bi-annual football event held in Sydney that will bring Europe’s top football teams to New South Wales, Australia every two years.
Everton make their first visit Down Under since 2010, with a number of engagement events planned for supporters. The Club is close to many Australian football fans’ hearts after the successful career of Socceroo legend Tim Cahill.
Everton manager Frank Lampard said: “We are really looking forward to travelling to Australia later this year. The winter World Cup has provided us with this opportunity to visit an amazing country and play against really strong opposition. We’ve also got a lot of passionate Evertonians in Australia and we can’t wait to catch up with them.
“Other than the players on duty at the World Cup, we will be taking our strongest possible squad. This promises to be a very worthwhile tour on every level, and we are delighted to be making the trip.”
Tickets for both fixtures will go on sale on Monday 11 July at 2pm AEST / 5am BST and Blues will have the opportunity to purchase tickets in the dedicated Everton Active Supporters’ areas of both stadiums. Fans are advised to purchase their tickets early before these seats are released for general sale.
Both games will be available to stream live* for 2022/23 Official Members as part of their Memberships benefits package. Click here to purchase Official Membership.
Evertonians attending the game against Celtic at Accor Stadium can purchase tickets in block 141, 142 and 143.
An Everton section will also be in place at the CommBank Stadium with supporters guided to purchase tickets in blocks 104, 105 and 106.
