Everton Under-21s midfielder Liam Higgins has signed his first professional contract, agreeing a one-year contract until the end of June 2023. The 19-year-old Wales youth international made the step up to Everton Under-21s last season, making two appearances in Premier League 2. Higgins, who is comfortable operating from the left or right flank and at full-back, is now targeting a regular place in Paul Tait’s Under-21s starting XI in 2022/23. He said: “From a young age, I’ve had a dream of becoming a professional footballer and it means so much for that to become a reality. “This is a huge club that has produced so many brilliant players. After a tough couple of years through injuries, this is an opportunity to show the quality I can produce and repay the faith the Club has shown in me. “I’m looking forward to working with Paul Tait again, someone who has given me massive support since I joined Everton. “He’s a great person and the confidence he gives you allows you to perform. “Whether I’m playing on the wing in the attacking third or as full-back, to get back onto the pitch will feel great. “I’m looking forward to working hard and showing what I can do.” Everton Director of Football, Kevin Thelwell, said: “We’re pleased to have agreed a new contract with Liam and believe he can continue learning and developing under the guidance of Paul Tait, a Head Coach he knows well from his time with our Under-18s. “We wish Liam all the best for the new season.” Everton FC
