Everton in the Community has appointed Sue Gregory as its new Chief Executive Officer to oversee the continued growth of the official charity of Everton Football Club.
Gregory, currently Everton in the Community’s Director of Youth Engagement, Employability and Sports Development, will take the helm as of 1st July 2022 and will be joined by Michael Salla, the charity’s Director of Health and Sport, who will also take on the role as Deputy CEO.
The appointment of Gregory and Salla to CEO and Deputy CEO of Everton in the Community comes as Richard Cronin prepares to step down from his role as Executive Director. After leading the charity over the past six months and building on its great strengths throughout this interim period, Cronin is set to retire on 30th June 2022.
Cronin joined Everton in the Community in October 2021, coinciding with Richard Kenyon’s move from his role as the charity’s Chief Executive Officer to take up an expanded and strategically pivotal position for the club.
Both Gregory and Salla bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to their new roles, having successfully led and developed their respective areas of Everton in the Community since 2012 and 2015.
In their new positions, Gregory and Salla will work closely with charity Directors and the Board of Trustees to continue to grow and develop the Club’s charitable arm and embrace the many opportunities presented by the Goodison Park Legacy - a £100m community-led regeneration project on the Goodison Park site. They will also oversee the opening of The People's Place, Everton in the Community’s dedicated mental health and wellbeing hub, later this year.
Reflecting on her appointment as Chief Executive Officer, Sue Gregory said: “I have seen this amazing charity grow and develop enormously over the last decade and during my seven years as Director, yet there is still much more to come from us and I am incredibly excited for what lies ahead.
“The opportunity to take the reins of Everton in the Community at such a pivotal time in its history is a great honour, and I look forward to continue working closely with Michael and our fantastic staff, directors and supporters to drive the charity forwards even further.”
Michael Salla added: “I am extremely proud to take up this new position alongside Sue and continue to build on the successes we have achieved together over the past decade.
“In my 10 years at the charity - seven of those as a Director - I’ve witnessed first-hand the true dedication of our staff and volunteers and the real impact we have made to thousands of people in our local community.
“But we want to do even more – as we enter a really exciting period of development for the charity, together we maintain our ambition to keep growing and to keep increasing the impact we make with the hope of expanding our reach to more people than ever before.”
