Talented goalkeeper Harry Tyrer has vowed to keep “giving everything and fighting for Everton” after signing a new three-and-a-half-year contract with the Blues until June 2025.
The boyhood Evertonian also saluted the unstinting support he has received from the Club he joined aged seven, as he aims to build on the significant strides he has made in recent years.
An athletic and assured keeper, the 20-year-old has consistently impressed for Everton Under-23s since breaking into David Unsworth’s side during the 2019/20 campaign.
Tyrer made his maiden First-Team appearance in a pre-season friendly against Preston North End in September 2020 – delivering a superb performance in a 2-0 Toffees win – and has continued to train regularly with the Blues’ senior team.
“It means the world to sign this new deal,” Tyrer told evertonfc.com. “I support the Club, I love the Club and I want to fight for Everton. It means everything to be here. It’s life-changing.
“Even now, when I come through the gates at USM Finch Farm every morning, I have to pinch myself sometimes.
“My whole family are Blues and I feel like I’m making them proud. That’s what I want to keep doing, because they’ve supported me throughout my whole career so far.
“I’m going to continue working hard for them and for Everton to be the best I can be.”
Tyrer is in the midst of his 14th year with the Blues and underlined how the Club’s Academy coaches and support staff have been instrumental in his growth as a player and a person.
He also explained how the opportunity to work with the high-calibre goalkeepers in the Everton First Team has further accelerated his progress.
“The coaches at the Academy… I actually look up to them as family,” he added.
“You become so close to them. I’ll never forget what they’ve done to help me.
“Training with the First Team now, I’ve learned so much. Jordan Pickford, Asmir Begovic and Andy Lonergan have helped me a lot.
“With Jordan being England’s number one, it’s fantastic to be able to observe him closely and learn. He’s got such a great range of qualities.
“Andy and Asmir have brought great experience to the group. They pass on knowledge of the game from what they’ve learned hundreds of matches in their careers.
“If you take little bits from each of them, it all adds up and helps you become a better keeper.”
Tyrer also paid tribute to the influence of goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly.
“Alan has been massive for me,” he added. “The sessions he comes up with are brilliant.
“They are very match-specific and, going into games, they are so beneficial in all types of situations.”
