Everton can confirm that Willie Kirk has left his position as manager of the Club’s Women’s team.
The Club would like to thank Willie for his service and wish him well for the future.
Willie was appointed in December 2018 and has played a key role in the progress of our Women’s team and structure, making the Club more competitive in the Barclays FA WSL and reaching the 2020 FA Cup final.
Everton is aiming to have a new manager in post ahead of the Club’s next match away to Leicester City in the Continental Cup on 3 November.

Willie Kirk has made the following statement after leaving his position as manager of Everton Women:
“I am thankful to the Club for the opportunity that they gave me three years ago. During that time, we have made tremendous progress both on and off the pitch and I leave the Club in a better place. Without a doubt, the highlight was the FA Cup final less than a year ago, a memory that will stay with me forever.
“Unfortunately, this season has not started the way we anticipated, due to a very tough opening fixture list and the re-building of a squad with eight new players.
“I have no doubt the talented squad that I leave behind can go on to have a very bright future.
“I wish the Club, the staff and the players my very best wishes.”

This makes little sense at all.
You rebuild a squad, come unstuck against the top teams in the league, and then resign?

Neither resigned, nor relieved of his duties. It appears the club has learned much from the handling of the Allardyce appointment and moving-on formalities.
But as regards Kirk, and Everton Women's path to breaking in the top three places in the Super League, with exactly three places in qualifying for the Champions' League available, will be very, very tough.
It could turn out that several quick-fix appointments will follow, trying to squeeze every effort from the players available, with many new recruited players coming in and going out on a likewise frequent basis.
The loss of Fara Williams & Natasha Dowie to (then) Liverpool Ladies and soon after, Toni Duggan & Jill Scott to Man City Women - four very key players - led to us being relegated in 2013.
Solid investment and patient progress made since, and that 0-1 win at Anfield in November 2019 was very sweet - not least in it relegating Liverpool Women in 2020.
But it gets much, much tougher from now on in, with Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea all enjoying both the European experience AND the first selections of the world's best female athletes that comes with success.
Willie Kirk did everything he could - in his position - that anyone else could possibly have done. Move on we must - but with all heads held very high for the experience.
