EVERTON CAPTAIN COLEMAN: FOOTBALL IS NOTHING WITHOUT FANS
Seamus Coleman gives his thoughts on how the football world united this week - and his pride at Everton's role in taking a stand against the proposed Super League.
It’s been a very interesting week. I think we’ve seen the good and the bad of football. The bad being the greed aspect of it all which was very, very disappointing, but then the good being fans of all clubs getting together and really putting their points across that the proposed Super League isn’t what we want.
I thought that definitely showed the good side of football - the fans and a lot of broadcasters coming together as well. The football world united to let everyone know what we thought of the proposals. I think the feelings were unanimous amongst players, managers and fans so we got to the right conclusion in the end.
I’m quite a laid-back person, things don’t bother me that much, but when the proposal was announced it just left a horrible feeling as a football fan, never mind as a player. It just automatically felt off, it didn’t feel good or right.
When I saw the statement from my own football club condemning the plans, how strong they were and how they spoke from the heart, it gave me massive pride to be part of this football club. We are known as The People’s Club and that showed.
Times like this make you so proud to be part of Everton because we are about the fans – and we always have been. We all understand football is a business but that’s only to a certain degree.
Football is nothing without the fans and it never will be anything without the fans. Supporters showed owners at the top of these clubs how fans continue to be so important.
Everton means a lot to me. It’s home from home. I’ve got my family back in Ireland and this is my family over here. It’s a club I came to and I knew straight away it was a hard-working club with hard-working fans which mirrored my personality.
That’s why the fans have taken to me at times because, even when things aren’t going well, I keep my head down and keep working hard.
For me, Everton means everything to me. It’s a club that took a chance on me all those years ago and ever since then I’ve tried to repay them. It’s a family club and ever so close to my heart.

ANCELOTTI SETS WINS TARGET FOR EVERTON TO REACH EUROPE
Carlo Ancelotti says Everton are targeting five wins from their remaining seven Premier League matches as the Blues strive to secure European qualification.
Everton are currently eighth in the table and will aim to ignite a strong Premier League run-in with victory at Arsenal on Friday (8pm BST).
Ancelotti’s side will take confidence from their excellent away form this season, with the Toffees having won nine of their 15 games on the road in 2020/21.
Everton were held to a 2-2 draw by Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park last time out, despite producing what Ancelotti described as “one of the best performances we have played at home this season”.
The Blues boss outlined the elements of Everton’s display which they must reproduce consistently until the end of the campaign – and is convinced his team can string together a positive series of results and achieve a European place.
“I’m sure [we can get into Europe],” Ancelotti told evertontv.
“We have seven games until the end of the season and we need to win five to be in Europe.
“We have to keep fighting.
“We still have seven games and the race is there.
“Of course, we dropped four points in the draws with Crystal Palace and Tottenham when we deserved to win.
“Against Tottenham, we pressed with intensity and didn’t give them the opportunity to create chances.
“We were more active defensively and the defensive line was a little bit higher.
“We missed some chances. We must try to avoid this. At this level, it is important to avoid mistakes.”
Brazil international Allan produced a typical all-action midfield display in that draw with Spurs.
The 30-year-old, who missed Everton’s previous two games through injury, made six tackles and recovered possession for his team on seven occasions. He also embarked on two successful dribbles and made two clearances.
Manager Ancelotti outlined the key qualities Allan offers Everton – and highlighted several of the Brazilian’s Toffees teammates who also shone during the Spurs contest.
“Allan brings aggression and he is tactically really good,” the Italian added.
“He is an important player, like James.
“With the ball, James is fantastic, he always has solutions, always has a pass.
“Tom Davies played at his level [against Spurs] and Gylfi Sigurdsson scored a fantastic goal.
“The collective performance and individual performances were good. We played really well.”
