Everton dominated Bristol City in the opening game of their 2020/21 Super League campaign Willie Kirk’s impressive Everton side made a winning start to their Barclays FA Women's Super League campaign at Twerton Park, deservedly beating Bristol City 4-0 to take all three points back to Merseyside. The visitors were dominant throughout the first period, with goals from Simone Magill and Lucy Graham giving them a two-goal platform at half-time. A professional second-half performance, topped off with an astute Graham penalty and a debut strike from Valerie Gauvin, was enough to see Kirk’s side claim the three points ahead of next weekend's clash with Tottenham Hotspur at the DCBL Stadium. The Toffee’s had begun brightly and came close to kick-starting their season in perfect fashion just two minutes in, as Ingrid Moe Wold’s cross was headed wide at the back post by the unmarked Nicoline Sorenson.

Everton boss Willie Kirk was buoyed by “a dominant display” as his new-look side opened their FA Women’s Super League campaign with a fine 4-0 success over Bristol City in Bath.
Two goals from skipper Lucy Graham – sandwiched between Simone Magill’s opener and a late Valerie Gauvin strike – earned three well-deserved points for the visitors.
“I thought it was a dominant display,” Kirk told evertonfc.com. “We had a couple of small periods of play where I wasn’t happy, but apart from that, I thought for the majority of the game we were in control. We created a lot of chances and put Bristol under pressure.
“For the first game of the season, I have to be happy with four goals and a clean sheet.”
Kirk was full of praise for his players, starting with Scottish international Graham, who chalked up an assist as well as her double against her and Kirk’s former club.
“Lucy is a danger if we can free her up to do most of her work in the attacking half of the pitch,” said Kirk.
“I thought our front three were all excellent and the new signings in there – Hayley Raso and Nicoline Sorensen – were both good.
“Izzy Christiansen was outstanding on her debut from start to finish. Megan Finnigan was a rock at the back but I thought the unsung hero was our Norwegian right-back Ingrid Moe Wold. She’s not flashy but she just does her job tremendously well.
“We managed to give some of the substitutes some game-time as well so there were a lot of positives to take. We just have to make the sure the level we reached today is the minimum standard for the rest of season. If we do that, then I think we can have a good one.”

Everton now prepare to host Spurs at Walton Hall Park next Sunday and Kirk added: “I think the fixtures list has given us a chance to start the season well because it’s five games before we play any of the top three – or anyone who finished above us last season.
“I’m not writing off any other teams because they have all strengthened, but we do have the opportunity to start the season well.
“Last season we started with two wins and that give us the momentum to go on and have a good season, so hopefully it can happen again.”
