Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is hoping to make his first summer signing in the form of Gabriel from Lille, reports the Mirror on Sunday. The Italian has been courting the Brazilian for some time now as he looks to improve his defence once transfer are once again possible. On the back of Everton's 4-0 thumping at Chelsea, Ancelotti has identified Gabriel as the centre-back he can rebuild his defence around with talks ongoing over a £30m switch. Gabriel has made 24 league appearances for Lille this season and has garnered a WhoScored rating of 6.93 in the process. Ancelotti believes Gabriel is the ideal centre-back partner for Mason Holgate, who recently penned a new deal at Goodison Park.

Everton are extremely optimistic about the signing of young Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhães in the summer transfer window, according to The Mirror.
The Toffees are going through a tough campaign where they are currently placed in 12th position on the league table with 37 points after 29 matches.
This season, Everton are clearly going through a transitional phase under manager Carlo Ancelotti, who replaced Marco Silva on the bench at Goodison Park.
The Mirror state that the Everton hierarchy is optimistic about completing the signing of the 22-year-old in the summer transfer window.
Gabriel is very highly-rated and has been linked with other Premier League clubs also.
It is believed that Everton will have to pay in the region of £30 million in order to complete the signing of the Brazil U23 international.
Gabriel has been with the French Ligue 1 outfit Lille since the summer of 2017 when he moved from Avaí Futebol Clube (SC).

According to reports from French publication L’Equipe (h/t GFFN), three clubs have made a formal move to sign Lille defender Gabriel already.
The report claims that one Italian and two English sides have already submitted bids for the centre-back. Everton are one of the clubs, and the bid is worth between €27m and €32m (roughly £30m) excluding bonuses.
The 22-year-old has impressed heavily for Lille this season, and he would be a superb addition for Everton. However, he is wanted by a host of European clubs including AC Milan and Paris-Saint Germain. Premier League rivals Leicester City are also equally keen for his signature.

Gabriel 'passes' Everton medical Gabriel Magalhaes has reportedly offsite medical checks ahead of a €30m move to Everton, but has been left in limbo because of the Coronavirus. The Independent reports the Blues had presented a contract offer to Gabriel’s representatives, hoping to secure a deal quickly for the sought-after Brazilian.
With the global pandemic resulting in football being suspended, they fear the 22-year-old could now bide his time before making any decision over his future with PSG and Leicester City also said to be interested in the Lille centre-back.
