David Moyes is the strong favourite with bookmakers to take the reigns at Everton after Marco Silva was sacked from the club following their 5-2 defeat to bitter rivals Liverpool on Wednesday night.
The result saw the Toffees slip into the relegation zone after Southampton overtook them by beating Norwich, and they have now won just one Premier League game in their last six.
Following talks on Thursday the club's board decided to relieve Silva of his duties, and are now thought to be turning their attentions towards Moyes as a successor, although it may only be temporary.
Moyes was a popular figure during his 11 years at Goodison Park between 2002-2013, leading Everton to a fourth-place finish in the 2004-2005 season, their highest finish since 1988. The 56-year-old Scot is priced at 1/4 to be appointed the next manager, with Moyes expected to be name initially as interim boss.
If for whatever reason Moyes is not apppointed, River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo is the second-favourite, priced at 9/1. Gallardo is the most successful boss in River's history with ten titles, including two Copa Libertadores wins and two Copa Argentinas, although he lost the final of this season's Copa Libertadores to Brazilian side Flamengo. Also thought to be under consideration is Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, who grew up an Everton supporter. Due to the difficulty in prising him away from the Cherries, however, he is priced at 10/1.

Duncan Ferguson now left to keep this club up after never managing a club before.
The directors need to show they had a plan before sacking Silva, as I'm getting to the point where I have no confidence in them.

It is all a bit of a mess. Looked like he lost the dressing room weeks ago. Maybe Ferguson can bang some heads.

Everton caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson will be supported by a coaching team of John Ebbrell, Francis Jeffers and Alan Kelly for Saturday’s home match against Chelsea. Ebbrell, Jeffers and goalkeeping coach Kelly will temporarily move from David Unsworth’s Everton Under-23s coaching staff to assist Ferguson. The trio were part of the coaching team as Unsworth’s side won the Premier League 2 title for the second time in three years last season. The young Blues then added the Premier League Cup to complete an unprecedented double. Ferguson, Ebbrell and Jeffers boast a combined total of 620 first-team appearances for Everton. Kelly, meanwhile, made more than 450 club appearances and won 34 caps for the Republic of Ireland during a 16-year professional career.
