Andre Gomes returned to individual training on Tuesday as the Everton midfielder stepped up his recovery from his horror right ankle dislocation fracture. Gomes suffered the injury against Tottenham in November, but was reunited with his team-mates at Everton's training ground. Last week, manager Carlo Ancelotti said he was hopeful the 26-year-old would return soon, after two-and-a-half months on the sidelines. 'Andre Gomes can come back next week and start to train individually here,' Ancelotti said. 'It is good news. He is doing well in his recovery. 'It is going fast, so I hope as soon as possible he can be with us, because he's a fantastic player.'

I doubt we'll see him again this season.

Everton midfielder Andre Gomes has taken the latest step in his remarkable recovery from that shocking ankle injury by returning to first-team training way ahead of schedule. A challenge from Heung-min Son during Everton’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham on November 3 left the midfielder with a fracture dislocation, and he was administered oxygen while being stretchered off the pitch. The following day, Gomes underwent successful surgery and his progress since has been remarkably speedy. Few expected the Portugal international to feature again this season, with the official prognosis anywhere between six months and a year. But just 86 days after the incident, Gomes is back in first-team training. The 26-year-old tweeted: “Feels good to be back with the team! First training session with the boys. Getting better everyday to be ready as soon as possible.” Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti is delighted at the possibility of having Gomes available before the end of the season. “It is good news. He is doing well in his recovery,” Ancelotti said recently, after he returned to gym sessions. “It is going fast, so I hope as soon as possible he can be with us, because he’s a fantastic player.”
