Liverpool could be ejected from the Carabao Cup for potentially fielding an ineligible player in their win over MK Dons on Wednesday, according to reports.
The Reds picked up a 2-0 victory over the League One side and will now face Arsenal in the fourth round.
But Liverpool might not face the Gunners should the EFL expel the club for playing Pedro Chirivella.
The 22-year-old Spanish midfielder is subject to the EFL's investigation amid possible issues over his international clearance.
And the EFL could hand down sanctions that potentially range from a fine to throwing Liverpool out of the Carabao Cup. "The club are aware of a potential administrative issue pertaining to one of our players," a Liverpool spokesperson said.
"We are working with the relevant authorities in order to establish the facts of the matter and will be making no further comment until this process is complete."
Chirivella, who came through Liverpool's youth academy, has had loan stints at Dutch sides Go Ahead Eagles and Willem II and Spanish club Extremadura in the last three seasons. The EFL said that it is "currently considering the matter."
