Everton midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin has avoided the need for surgery on his damaged quadriceps. The £25m summer signing sustained the tendon injury in training last month and the Blues' initial prognosis puts Gbamin out for "at least" eight weeks. At first, Everton were unable to rule out the need for Gbamin to go under the knife on the problem in his right leg but the ECHO understands that after the club sought expert advice from consultants on the continent, it was decided that the 23-year-old would not need an operation. Gbamin is said to be recovering well at Finch Farm but the Blues are still not able to put a more specific timescale on his return. There had been early fears that the Ivory Coast international could be out for three months but Everton have yet to talk about return dates beyond an initial club statement which said he would be sidelined for eight weeks, as a minimum. I'm not expecting to see him this season just like Mina last season. It's a good job we have other options.

Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Everton's Jean-Philippe Gbamin has suffered a fresh injury blow.
Gbamin had re-joined his Toffees team-mates in training in recent weeks after spending virtually the entire season on the sidelines with a thigh injury.
The 24-year-old, who managed 135 minutes of football for Everton prior to the injury, might not be so close to a comeback after all, though.
Ancelotti revealed that Gbamin - a £25 million signing last summer under Marco Silva [The Echo] - is set to undergo yet another operation, but the Italian added that he was hopeful of seeing him before the end of the season.

Carlo Ancelotti says Jean-Philippe Gbamin requires further surgery on a thigh injury and may be out for the rest of the season.
The £25m summer signing from Mainz played just two games for the Toffees before suffering the injury in August and underwent surgery in October.
Despite returning to light training it seems he has suffered a setback and may go under the knife once more, potentially ending his season.
It is rotten luck for both the player and club, as the Ivory Coast midfielder has no track record of injuries as far as we can see.
There was more positive news about Gylfi Sigurðsson, Alex Iwobi and Richarlison, who have made full recoveries from their respective setbacks, while André Gomes’ rehabilitation has continued at an extraordinary pace.

Welcome Paul. I think getting Gbamin fit for next season is key now.
