Everton defender Antonee Robinson is set to undergo a Wigan Athletic medical as he puts the finishing touches to his transfer, Football Insider can reveal. An Everton source has told Football Insider that the Merseysiders have granted permission for the USA international to head to the Championship club and discuss personal terms. Robinson has two years remaining on his Everton contract but has decided to move on in search of regular first-team football. This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed last month that Wigan had made a formal move for Robinson following his impressive campaign on loan. The defender took his USA cap haul to seven this summer but has found game time harder to come by at Everton, where he is yet to represent the first team. Marco Silva is an admirer of Robinson but the first choice left-back in his side is Lucas Digne, widely regarded as one of the best players in his position in the Premier League.

Antonee Robinson has completed a permanent transfer to Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee. The left-back returns to the Latics, where he made 26 appearances during a season on loan in 2018/19. The defender, 21, progressed through Everton’s Academy and signed his first professional contract with the Toffees in July 2015. He also spent a season on loan in the Championship with Bolton Wanderers in 2017/18. Robinson is a full United States international and has earned seven senior caps to date. Everton FC

Why sign Baines for another year, then sign Delph who can also cover LB, and then sell a promising LB like Robinson?
