Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny ‘is expected’ to stay at Schalke long-term, although in what capacity is yet to be decided.
The right-back is spending the season on loan at the German club, having headed to Germany in search of regular first-team football.
That is something he has found in abundance, proving to be a huge hit for David Wagner’s side, making 21 appearances in all competitions to date.
Schalke are keen to keep him as a result, although as yet it is unknown what Everton’s plans for their youngster are beyond this season.
According to SportBild, however, he is set to stay in Germany for the ‘long-term’ with Schalke planning to contact Everton at the end of the season, when talks ‘will be intensified’.
Should he be too expensive, which could prove to be the case according to a report we covered yesterday; the Bundesliga side will instead try to secure another loan deal for the 22-year-old.
Everton’s stance isn’t mentioned, although there is no denying they will have to assess the situation with Kenny come the summer.
His performances in Germany may have convinced them he is worth a first-team place, with right-back still a problem position at the club.
If that is not the case, however, it seems unlikely Marcel Brands would sanction another loan deal while the defender’s stock is high and he can get a good price for him

The Royal Blues had to make do without Jonjoe Kenny for three matches, before the right-back made his comeback against Mainz 05 last weekend. In an interview with schalke04.de, Kenny talks about his return to the pitch, the special support from the fans and upcoming opponents RB Leipzig.
Jonjoe, you made your comeback from injury against Mainz. How did that feel? I was very happy to be back on the pitch. I felt fit; it felt good to be back out there. It felt like a longer absence than it actually was. I worked hard in order to be back as soon as possible.
What was it like only being able to watch the last few games from the stands? It was tough, as you can’t do much from the stands. But, you can see a lot of the game and how it plays out. I think it was good for me to see exactly how we want to play and it gives me more ideas to bring to the pitch when I’m playing, especially in terms of moving it up the pitch.
Many fans were eagerly waiting for you to make your comeback. What makes you so popular amongst the fans? I really appreciate the fans, their level of support for both the team and me personally is really fantastic. I feel really at home here, both on and off the pitch. I try to give a 100 per cent every game, to fight until the end and try to help our team win every game we play. I think that’s something that helps me with the fans.
You made an important block against Mainz in the 78th minute. How did it feel? For a defender it’s like scoring a goal. Putting your body on the line to prevent a goal is part and parcel of being a defender. We’ve now drawn three matches in a row.
What needs to happen for us to start winning again? We create a good few chances in every game, but we need to finish them. That isn’t all the strikers’ responsibility, but the whole team can support our offensive efforts. Leipzig is next on the agenda.
Do you think we’re better suited to playing against them and their playing style than against Berlin, Paderborn and Mainz? The first thing you need to understand is that Leipzig are a very, very good team. They have had a fantastic season so far. Maybe our playing style is better suited to playing them. Both teams will battle it out and it will come down to who wants to play football more. To get an away win we will need to put in maximum effort, which is what you need to do whenever you play a team like Leipzig.

According to Liverpool Echo, Everton are set to hold future talks with Jonjoe Kenny, who currently plies his trade in Germany with Schalke on loan.
Kenny, 22, came through the youth ranks of Everton and was sent on loan spells Wigan Athletic and Oxford United earlier to develop himself. He was promoted to the Toffees’ first-team back in 2017 but he could claim a spot in the team. Last summer, he was sent on loan to Schalke to get enough game time.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are interested in Jonjoe Kenny and could make a move for the 23-year-old this summer. The Gunners are on the hunt for a new right-back and have Kenny on a list of names.
Despite having Hector Bellerin, Calum Chambers and Cedric Soares who can operate in the role, misfortune left them with only Bellerin at their disposal – Chambers suffered a cruciate injury and hasn’t featured since December 2019 while Cedric Soares suffered a knee injury and hasn’t featured since January 2020. He was only signed on a short-term loan from Southampton too.
