Tanzania Diary: Day ThreeDespite having a packed day on safari on Monday, we were all eager for more so after a hearty breakfast, we were off and out at 8.30am in the morning, champing at the bit to experience all that the spectacular Lake Manyara National Park had to offer. First stop was the Manyara Canopy Walk - the longest canopy walkway in Africa – a 400-metre long, treetop wooden walkway rising to a height of 18 metres off the ground. We were massively looking forward to this – until the park ranger's last words of advice, “if you see any snakes, scorpions or spiders, let us know – and whatever you do, don't run! That's the worst thing you can do." As we walked along the series of bridges that linked the trees, we had a different perspective of the sheer beauty of this park. Back on the ground, we got back into our 4x4 and headed out into the park with Leon Osman fancying himself as a budding David Attenborough, sticking his head out of the jeep roof to spot animals lurking in the undergrowth! Some of the highlights included a dozen or so giraffes grazing on the plains, a troop of baboons scampering through the forest, and a pair of elephants plodding across the road in front of us. It really was another stunning day. Lake Manyara Park is famous for its tree-climbing lions but sadly we didn’t spot any, despite the fact we were climbing trees ourselves! Did it matter? Not a chance. None of us really wanted to leave but, grudgingly, it was back to the airfield and on to the plane to take us back to Dar es Salaam. Lake Manyara was incredible, but we are very close to the real reason we are here. Even in the park, we were being asked about Wayne Rooney! The excitement is building ahead of our game against Gor Mahia, with a full house expected at the National Stadium!
