Jack Rodwell’s search for a new club has taken another turn, with the former Rovers man now training with Premier League side Sheffield United.
Boss Chris Wilder confirmed the news at his press conference previewing the Blades’ game with Brighton and admitted ‘something might develop’.
Since opting not to take Rovers up on the offer of a new deal in the summer, there has been reported interest in Rodwell from teams in Greece, Australia, America and Italy.
In October, Serie A giants Roma look set to offer Rodwell a route back in to football on a short-term deal, only for that to fall through.
Palermo were the first Italian side to be linked with Rodwell in March, with Torino then reported to have shown interest in June, before Greek side Panathinaikos contacted Rovers to learn more about him earlier this summer.
When his deal expired at Ewood Park in May, Rovers revealed they were in discussions with Rodwell and his representatives about the possibility of an extended stay, but those later broke down, leaving him free to find a new club.
But the Blades, enjoying a stunning start to life in the Premier League, have now allowed Rodwell to train with them before taking a decision on his future.
He arrived at Rovers as a free agent in August, following a turbulent spell with Sunderland, and went on to play 22 times under Tony Mowbray, the majority of which came in central defence.
