I think I have done about 500+ posts, Leeds - In the early 70s I had been working overtime in the morning and went straight to Lime St station and caught the 'Football Special' up to Leeds; still had my suit, shirt & tie on, and when out of the station, we were marched - police escort, like cattle or prisoners, up to the ground. Later at the ground I had an unwanted engagement with four youths - you can guess who came off worse. After that I said I would never go to away games again. Sorry to hear that. Police used to be a law unto themselves in the 70's and 80's. I remember being grabbed by the arm and forced into a long queue of Chelsea supporters as a teen, and when I protested why I was told "Because I said so" and so I stood there surrounded by Chelsea fans for nearly 20 minutes, until I managed to get clear. Somehow the Bobby couldn't tell my accent apart from the London lot. Thank God, things are better now! In the last 4 or 5 years I've never seen fights at Goodison. Seen a few drunken away supporters but generally no hassle.

I only ask as you don't join in much with discussions. What happened in Leeds? I think I have done about 500+ posts, Leeds - In the early 70s I had been working overtime in the morning and went straight to Lime St station and caught the 'Football Special' up to Leeds; still had my suit, shirt & tie on, and when out of the station, we were marched - police escort, like cattle or prisoners, up to the ground. Later at the ground I had an unwanted engagement with four youths - you can guess who came off worse. After that I said I would never go to away games again. Leeds have a bit of a reputation with Everton but I think most of the time it's a lot safer now than it was back in your day.
