At Everton between 2020 - 2021

On 5th October 2020, Everton completed the signing of goalkeeper Robin Olsen on a season-long loan from AS Roma.

A star of Sweden's run to the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Cup, Olsen joined Roma following that tournament in Russia having kept three clean sheets in four games en route to his nation reaching the last eight.

His switch to Italy came following a successful two-and-a-half season spell in Denmark in which Olsen won back-to-back league and cup doubles with FC Copenhagen.

The 6ft 5in stopper had previously had a short stint in Greece with PAOK, having started his career in his homeland with clubs including Malmö FF, who he helped qualify for the Champions League group stages in 2014.

In November 2018, Olsen was awarded the Swedish Goalkeeper Of The Year award.

Following the arrival of Spain international goalkeeper Pau Lopez at Roma in summer 2019, Olsen headed to Cagliari on loan last term, playing 17 Serie A matches to add to the 27 he amassed in the Italian top flight the previous campaign.

Internationally, Olsen made his debut for Sweden in January 2015 and was one of the nation's heroes when he kept two clean sheets in their shock World Cup play-off win over Italy in November 2017.

Despite undergoing shoulder surgery three-and-a-half months before the tournament in Russia, Olsen recovered and impressed before Sweden's last-eight exit to England.

“From what I have watched this season, the team looks really, really good” Olsen stated in his first Everton interview. "They have been fantastic".

“And I hope we can continue with that now. I am so happy to be able to say that – ‘we’ – and to be part of this team. It’s a perfect atmosphere to join, I think. When it is going good for the team, everyone is happy. Everybody is positive – but they want more, too".

“This club has big ambitions and you can see that with the players they have signed. I understand it is a lot of pressure to play for Everton, because it is such a big club. But I like the pressure – because it puts pressure on myself also".

“You have responsibility for the shirt you wear, for the Club and for the fans. I want to win. When you win something, that is the best feeling. If you see the start we have had, you need to believe we can win something. I believe in it.”

Robin returned to A.S Roma at the end of the 2020-21 season.

Good luck from all at Love Everton.
