Matthew Pennington is a versatile defender who has been at Everton since the age of eleven.
*In July 2013, the Warrington-born youngster signed his first professional contract which will keep him at Goodison Park until the summer of 2015.
Pennington was a regular for the Under-18s side which reached the quarter-final of the FA Youth Cup and the semi-finals of the Premier Academy League during 2012/13.
He also made nine appearances for Alan Stubbs’ Under-21s team and is expected to feature more frequently during the forthcoming campaign.
Pennington is equally adaptable playing in central defence and at right-back.
He was rewarded for the high standard of his performances last season by receiving a call-up to England Under-19s squad for the international against Turkey in March 2013, where he appeared as a second-half substitute in a 1-0 victory.
In January 2014 he joined Tranmere Rovers on a month's loan, and in a second temporary spell at Prenton Park his goal was in vain as the Wirral outfit were dramatically relegated to League Two on the final day of the season.
Mathew signed a 3 year deal on 7th July 2015 keeping him at the club until 2018.
Then, on 8th April 2017, he signed a new deal keeping him at Everton until 2019.
On 19th July 2017, Matthew Pennington moved to Leeds United on a season-long loan.
On 11th May 2018, Pennington signed a new three-year contract committing the defender to the Club to the end of June 2021.
Matthew said "This is the club I have been at since I was a little boy and I am excited to extend my stay here."
On 8th August 2019, Matthew joined Hull City, signing a season long loan on the last day of the summer transfer window.
On 31st December 2020, Everton announced that Matthew would join Shrewsbury Town for the remainder of the 2020-21 season.
On 27th May 2021, Matthew joined Shrewsbury on a permanent basis, signing a 2 year contract.
