  • Birthplace: Hilversum, Netherlands

At Everton between 2017 - 2018

Attacking midfielder Davy was Everton’s second summer signing in 2017.

He arrived from Europa League finalists Ajax in a €27m move, penning a five-year deal.

A Netherlands international, he had served as captain at his former club, having been handed the armband ahead of the 2015/16 campaign, aged just 22.

In his final season at the Amsterdam Arena, Davy netted 16 goals, including two in the Europa League as Ajax went all the way to the final in Stockholm, only to suffer heartbreak against Manchester United.

He also displayed his creativity, contributing nine assists as Ajax finished second in the Eredivisie, just a point behind rivals Feyenoord.

Born in Hilversum, northern Holland, Klaassen started out in local amateur football before being spotted by Ajax at the age of 11.

Such was his talent, he was then selected for his first-team debut at 18, stepping off the bench in a Champions League group game against Lyon on 22 November 2011.

Five days later, he made his first league appearance for the club, scoring just 42 seconds after coming on to complete a 3-0 win at NEC Nijmegen.

He would play just twice the following campaign before truly announcing his talent with 11 goals in 2013/14 as Ajax won the league for the fourth time in a row. His performances would also see him crowned Dutch Football Talent of the Year, a prize voted for by professional players in Holland’s top two tiers.

A further eight goals would arrive in 2014/15, including one against Paris St Germain - his first in the Champions League.

Davy was appointed skipper at the start of the next season and led by example, netting on 13 occasions as Ajax finished runners-up to PSV for a second successive campaign. He was also named Dutch Footballer of the Year.

Fourteen league goals at a rate of one every 204 minutes, plus a Europa League brace against Schalke, saw him enjoy his most prolific campaign to date in 2016/17 before completing his switch to Merseyside.

Internationally, Klaassen made his debut for the Netherlands in a friendly against France on 5 March 2014. A maiden international goal would follow in a friendly against Spain a year later, and he had a record of four goals in 14 appearances when he signed for the Blues.

On 27th July 2018, it was announced Davy had signed for Bundesliga team Verder Bremen.

On 5th October 2020, he once again returned to Ajax signing a 4 year deal until June 2024.

Good luck from all at Love Everton.
