Everton out of FA Youth CupEverton's U18 lost to Preston North End in the 4th round going down 7-6 on penalties after the game finished 0-0 after extra time. Jack Kiersey had the Young Blues's best chance of a tight first half but fired wide while Hornby, Bramall and Morris had chances to win it in the second half. 30 goalless minutes of extra time couldn't separate the two teams which set up a penalty shootout. Alex Wood was the first to miss from 12 yards, his shot saved by Ben Pierce but Manasse Mampala spurned the chance to put Everton ahead when shot over the bar to keep the score on spot-kicks at 3-3. The teams couldn't be separated as the shootout moved into sudden death but Michael Collins saw the decisive spot-kick saved. Everton: Pierce, Morris, Harrington, Denny, Lees, Feeney, Bramall, Kiersey, Lavery, Hornby, Moore. Subs: Hilton, Baningime, Collins, Scully, Mampala.

Cup Exit Frustrates SheedyFrustrated Under-18s coach Kevin Sheedy felt his team paid the price for producing their “worst performance of the season” in Wednesday’s FA Youth Cup defeat to Preston North End. The Blues exited the competition in the fourth round after losing 7-6 on penalties at Deepdale. The tie had gone to a dreaded shoot-out after neither side could muster up a goal through 120 minutes. “It’s really disappointing,” Sheedy said post-match. “We’ve put in our worst performance of the season by far. “We didn’t do enough to win the game. They did enough to stop us but we didn’t do enough to win it. We had a couple of half-chances but on the night our quality in the final third wasn’t like it has been this season. Consequently, we didn’t create enough chances and test their goalkeeper. “When it goes to a penalty shoot-out, it’s a lottery. Our goalkeeper [Ben Pierce] has made two saves and that should be enough to take us through, but it wasn’t and we go out. “I have to give praise to Preston because they really played well on the night. They gave everything they have got and made it difficult for us. “We picked the wrong night to put in our worst performance of the season.” After Wednesday evening’s disappointment, Sheedy has now challenged his side to make a push in the Under-18s Premier League. The young Blues sit fifth in the table after 16 fixtures. “We’ve got a big game on Saturday now against Manchester United,” he added. “The players have got to dust themselves down and bounce back from this. We have to start getting back to the form we showed before the Christmas break.” Want to reply to articles as a guest?Loads more Everton News HEREREGISTER WITH LOVE EVERTON FORUM HERE Checkout our site map HERE
