Ronald Koeman has called on his players to be more proactive after Everton surrendered a 1-0 lead at Watford to lose 3-2 on Saturday.
Romelu Lukaku had put the Blues ahead with a calm finish on 17 minutes but the Hornets then struck three times before Lukaku grabbed another late on.
The result caused a frustrated Koeman to admit his side should have taken the initiative after outplaying the hosts until Stefano Okaka’s 36th-minute equaliser.
“The start was good,” the Toffees boss said. ”We were the dominant team and scored a good goal, but then the problems started. We weren’t the same in controlling the game, we had bad mistakes in our ball possession and not good communication.
“It could have been a draw in the end. We did everything and took the risk, but maybe that’s the big problem at the moment - that if we are down, we have a good reaction. But why not earlier in the game?
"Being 1-0 up needs to give everyone that step of confidence. Instead of playing like we did [at the start], we go backwards and you give the belief to your opponent. Until 1-1, there was one team on the pitch.
“We had some good chances in the last 10 minutes, but it was too late. The reaction was too late.”

What can anybody say that would make things better? It's too early to be slaughtering Koeman, but things aren't working. I don't see a team on the pitch. What I see is a gang of individuals running through the motions but nobody particularly going out of their way. Individual effort isn't enough, and it needs them all to get stuck in together.

Was prepared to give Koeman time but he's proving to be utterly useless. The warning signs he isn't that bothered are when he took forever to arrive at the club which didn't give him time to assess the squad and him not playing the youth. He's an average manager at best. He's only had just over a dozen games mate. Sometimes managers don't hit the ground running but let's not right him off just yet. |
