Everton legend Alex Young to make emotional Goodison returnThe David France commissioned film will be watched by Alex Young at Goodison on November 2One of the most deified figures in Everton’s history will make an emotional return to the stadium he graced later this month.
The word ‘graced’ is entirely appropriate for Alex Young, aka The Golden Vision, a centre-forward of matchless subtlety and artistry who was idolised in the 1960s like no other Evertonian.
Alex will be at Goodison on Saturday, November 26 for a special preview screening of Alex The Great, a documentary film made about his career.
The special DVD has been commissioned by Alex’s fan and friend, the philanthropist Dr David France.
The screening will take place between 3pm and 6pm and guests will be filmed to form part of the final edit.
Alex, of course, was the subject of a celebrated TV drama called The Golden Vision which was aired in 1968.

The new DVD will feature interviews with the director and writer of the seminal play, Ken Loach and Neville Smith.
The DVD was made by Liverpool-based film company Tabacula.
“We have discovered new footage of Alex Young which helps us to try and show just how good Alex Young really was,” said Dr France.
“I say, try, because it is almost impossible to do his genius justice.”
The original documentary, originally a BBC Wednesday Play, was a family-centred comedy-drama which partly explored Evertonian affections for a real-life icon.
It was drawn from the experiences of Liverpool-born Neville Smith, who had acted in several Loach dramas and was Smith’s television writing debut.
Both men talk about the making of the play in the new DVD.
It will also feature interviews with Joe Royle, Colin Harvey and Walter Smith amongst others.
