Maarten To Be Fit For ChelseaBut boss applauds performance of deputy JoelRonald Koeman expects to have goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg available for next weekend’s trip to Chelsea - but hailed replacement Joel Robles for helping Everton keep a clean sheet in their 2-0 win over West Ham on Sunday. Stekelenburg missed the visit of the Hammers after picking up a foot injury on the eve of the match, meaning Robles came in for his first appearance of the season. Koeman is confident the Dutch stopper will be fit to face Antonio Conte’s side at Stamford Bridge but paid tribute to the incoming deputy. “Yesterday, Maarten had a swollen foot,” explained Koeman. “He was close to playing today. He had a test this morning but he did not have that confidence [in the foot] that you need to start and that was the reason he didn’t start today. But he will be fit for next week.” He added: “We have total confidence in Joel. He had a difficult time in the beginning after the decision that we made [to keep Stekelenburg as first choice] but in the last few months he’s been doing well, he’s been waiting for his chance and he’s showed today that he can be the number one if we need him, no problem.”
