Everton continued their push for promotion with a 3-0 win against Oxford United at the Select Security Stadium.
Claudia Walker’s double and a goal from Michelle Hinnigan secured the win to remain two points behind Bristol City with a game in hand.
The Blue Girls spent the vast majority of the game in Oxford’s half and came close to taking an early lead through Michelle Hinnigan who had a deflected shot go just wide.
Everton had another great chance to score when Walker was played through on goal but was denied by an excellent last-gasp block by Rosanna Lane.
Walker gave the Toffees a deserved lead just before the half-hour mark after being on the receiving end of Rosella Ayane’s great low cross.
Walker nearly added a second goal with a low shot but her effort was well saved by Demi Lambourne before the England U-20 international came close again with a shot outside the area before half-time.
It was an end-to-end start to the second half with Walker having a looping effort save by Lambourne just moments after the restart.
There was a scare at the other end shortly after when the visitors had a goal disallowed for a foul in the build-up.
The Blue Girls responded through Kelly Jones who worked space for herself in the area but could not direct her shot on target.
Ini Umotong came agonisingly close to equalising for the hosts when her scuffed shot was heading towards goal but Dan Turner was on hand to hook her effort off the line.
Everton doubled their lead through Hinnigan who was at the back post to score from Ayane’s cross.
Walker added gloss to the scoreline with a superb turn and finish inside the box in the 67th minute.
Despite leading by a big margin, the Blue Girls pressed for more goals and came close through Chloe Kelly who curled a shot just wide of the goal.
Walker nearly got her hat-trick in the 81st minute with a low shot that Lambourne managed to save at full stretch before heading wide just moments after.
Next up for the Blue Girls is a trip to Yeovil Ladies who are currently top of the table.
