Again Koeman showed tactiful awareness. Good 2nd half. Gueye is a bargain , i thought he was superb. I like his no nonsense attitude.

Ronald Koeman saluted the performance of Romelu Lukaku after the Everton striker’s 11-minute hat-trick helped defeat Sunderland.Lukaku netted with a pair of headers after fine crosses from first Idrissa Gana Gueye then Yannick Bolasie, before coolly slotting home from a lovely Kevin Mirallas through ball. Koeman spoke in the build up to the trip to the Stadium of Light that he had few concerns over Lukaku, who hadn’t scored for the Blues in 1,139 minutes, and was delighted with his striker’s display. “I did not have doubts about him,” said the Toffees chief. “It is unbelievable how good he can be. Strikers look to score goals and there was a little doubt in his mind when he didn’t score for so long for Everton. “I told him the best answer is on the pitch and he showed his quality with the goals tonight. It was a great performance.” Koeman admitted that he was less happy with the Blues’ first half display. Despite boasting 65% possession, the visitors had only gone close on a couple of occasions, Lukaku powering a header at Jordan Pickford and Mirallas denied by a Papy Djilobodji block. But he was pleased with the reaction after a stern half-time team talk. “I was really disappointed with our first 45 minutes. From the start of the game, it was not the Everton that I like. But the second half was what I like to see – good football, good pressing and we had opportunities to score more goals. “I was really angry at half time. We had good defeding –that wasn;t the problem – the problem was when he had ball possession in the midfield and up front. We lost too many balls. Sometimes you need to make hard decisions to hope for a good reaction. That came in the second half. I know my players, I know the levels they can show and that was the level they reached in the second half.
