Everton boss Ronald Koeman admits club needs to "explain the project" when competing for players Ronald Koeman admits Everton are still finding it tough to compete with the elite clubs in the transfer market - despite having more money than ever before. The Blues splashed £25m on Yannick Bolasie this week to make him the club’s second most expensive signing ever. Everton are expected to break their current record buy of £28m before the transfer window shuts on August 31 but Koeman says they are still having to work hard to complete their business. Billionaire investor Farhad Moshiri will continue to back Koeman in the window and this week said the Blues were “relentlessly” pursuing more targets. And Koeman says he is having to try and sell the “project” to the players on his transfer wishlist. “That is always difficult because if there is a big club interested in a player who is also in our list then it is difficult,” Koeman said. “The player needs to know our project and needs to believe in our project. “Maybe we showed that interest that was good for the player.” With regards to Bolasie, the Blues boss added: “I spoke to him, I explained the project, I explained how we work, how we like to play and I mentioned to him that he was, for a long time, on my list. “And, of course, players need to feel that confidence from the manager. That is good but, finally, it is up to the player and he makes the starting line-up due to his performances, his work-rate and what he is showing during the whole week. “But, of course, it is a big signing for us and I hope the best for him and the best for Everton.” By Phil Kirkbride / Echo
