Mason Holgate thanked the vocal Goodison Park crowd for helping him settle after making his senior Everton debut in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.
The 19-year-old defender made his first-team bow for the Blues exactly a year on from signing from Barnsley, impressing at right-back as he deputised for the injured Seamus Coleman.
Holgate, who featured regularly in defence throughout pre-season, caught the eye with a number of important tackles, blocks and interceptions in front of the Gwladys Street in the first half.
His contribution did not go unnoticed by the sell-out crowd - and, speaking after the clash with Mauricio Pochettino’s side, Holgate expressed his appreciation for the support.
“I really enjoyed it, there were a lot of fans and they were great - it’s a great memory and one I will never forget,” he told evertontv. “It’s great for me when the fans get behind you like they did, it makes it that little bit easier.
“I found out I’d be playing yesterday, so I had a little bit of time to get my head around it and I was looking forward to it. I just want to keep going from here and get as many games in as I can.
“Looking at the game itself, we had a few chances to put the game away but we were under pressure for a little bit of the game as well. Either team could have nicked it, but 1-1 was a fair result.”
Holgate also praised goalkeeper and fellow Everton debutant Maarten Stekelenburg for guiding him through his first taste of senior action for the Toffees.
The Holland international, a 2010 World Cup runner-up with 54 caps for his country, made his mark with two outstanding saves to deny Vincent Janssen and Erik Lamela in the closing stages.
Holgate added: “When you’re behind a goalkeeper like Stek it makes it a little bit easier for you as well because he is very experienced and he’s talking a lot behind you.
“He made two great saves at the end there to keep us in the game.”

And so it begins. It seems to have gone quickly, but I haven't seen anything about us to be confident about. Deulofeu looked to be playing well but has been rubbish in the last 2 games. We need players and good ones at that. Lukaku can't be relied on even if he stays, and you can go through the entire team picking fault. We're bang average in nearly every position, and try to pretend we're better than we are. If they're only 70% fit what ever that means then why? If we analyze the players, which one of them is dependable? This is what happens when a team stop trying and fans pick up on it. I was hoping to get rid of most of them in this window and the next as not many deserve to wear the shirt if you ask me. Spurs on the other hand pushed Leicester to the wire until they ***** up at the end and finished 3rd so if Kane is on form we could be in trouble with a make shift defence. It depends what he means by fit but we burned out towards the end and that's why the subs were used.

A bit harsh on Everton this report, No Lukaku or any striker of note, no Coleman or Williams, Stones sold, new manager, Gana playing his first Premier game and playing against a very good Spurs side at full strength. You have to go with what you've got and Koleman will probably go with a more packed defensive midfield set up until we get the side he wants. Just the fact that the lamentable Kone is still 'somehow' at Everton shows that we are a team in transition.
