How Will The Dresden Cup WorkEverton's pre-season journey continues this weekend when they take part in the Dresden Cup. Ronald Koeman's charges will face the hosts Dynamo Dresden on Friday evening, before meeting Real Betis of La Liga on Saturday lunchtime. But the tournament has an interesting twist - as well as three points for a win, there will be a point awarded for every goal scored, regardless of whether the game is won or lost. What's more, there will be no draws in the tournament with games set to go immediately to a penalty shootout should the scores remain level after 90 minutes. Three points will then be awarded to the winners of the shootout, though goals scored in penalty shootouts will not count towards the final tally. Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen will also feature and face Betis on Friday and Dynamo Dresden in the final game of the four-match tournament on Saturday. At the end of all the matches, the team with the most points will be crowned the winners. Should two teams finish level on points, goal difference will be used to determine the champions. If goal difference can't split the teams, it will go down to goals scored. It all points towards a goal rush in Germany - and you can catch every second of Everton's two games live on evertontv! The matches are available for just £3.99, with commentary set to come from evertontv's Darren Griffiths and 1995 FA Cup winner Graham Stuart. Evertonians across the globe will also be urged to join in on the action by sending their shout-outs and questions to Darren and Graham using the hashtag #evertontvlive.

Muhamed Besic has revealed how Ronald Koeman has told his players they must approach each of Everton’s pre-season friendlies like a competitive fixture in order be as prepared as possible for the new Premier League season. The Blues beat Barnsley and MK Dons in their first two warm-up fixtures, although boss Koeman was honest in his assessment of Tuesday night’s 3-1 win at Stadium MK by admitting there are areas in the team’s performance where improvement is needed. That is why Besic believes it is important Everton head to Germany on Thursday full of determination to return to with the Dresden Cup to their name. The Toffees face the tournament hosts on Friday night (7.30pm UK) and Spanish outfit Real Betis early on Saturday afternoon (12.30pm UK) - matches which are being broadcast live on evertontv. “Every game, for me, is like a Premier League game. You have to always give your best,” Besic declared. “The coach wants this also from us and we have to do that. Every friendly game has to be treated like a Premier League game. “We will give our best to win every game. We will give our best to win the [Dresden] cup. “German sides and Spanish sides are different. German sides are more organised and Spanish sides like to press a lot. It will be a really good test for us.” The weekend trip sees Besic return to the country where he grew up.The midfielder’s parents are Bosnian but he was born and raised in Germany, with his first professional club being Bundesliga outfit SV Hamburg. He later went on to move to Hungarian club Ferencvaros before making the switch to Goodison Park two summers ago. “I was born in Germany and Dresden is just two-and-a-half hours from my home town,” he added. “I like to be back in Germany because it was my home. Besic has never scored a competitive goal for Everton, still he was pleased to find the net in Tuesday’s friendly victory over MK Dons. “I just played 30 minutes but I was really happy to score a goal,” he continued. “I will just keep working and hopefully there will be more goals.”

Dynamo Dresden 2-1 Everton: Full time reportBlues beaten by newly-promoted German Second Division sideEverton's two-game tour of Germany got off to a losing start as they fell 2-1 to hosts Dynamo Dresden. The Blues went behind to Niklas Hauptmann's goal 14 minutes in before Gerard Deulofeu made it three goals in as many pre-season games by firing in a free-kick from the edge of the area to level the game just before half-time. Everton had chances to extend their lead after the break but were punished when Pascal Testroet was given time and space on the edge of the area and he fired past Maarten Stekelenburg to make it 2-1. Deulofeu's goal at least hands Ronald Koeman's side a point in the competition and they face Real Betis, who won their opening game, tomorrow (12:30 UK time) in their second fixture. Wantaway defender John Stones started the game at the DDV-Stadion and put in an accomplished performance until he was replaced by Mason Holgate with 21 minutes to go. Deulofeu was the only Everton player offering any cutting edge and after being denied by the post in the 10th minute he saw another effort saved superbly by Dresden goalkeeper Patrick Wiegers. Everton trailed at this point after a lack of communication between Seamus Coleman and Stekelenburg allowed Erich Berko in and his low drive was converted by Niklas Hauptmann. The Blues were struggling to find any fluency and their ponderous display left Koeman agitated on the touchlines. But with five minutes of the half remaining Deulofeu won a free-kick on the edge of the area and stepped up to convert, with his dipping strike kissing the underside of the bar on the way in. Deulofeu had a glorious chance to make it 2-1 mid-way through the second-half but after being put clean through by Kevin Mirallas, he dragged his effort wide from the right. Two minutes later and Dresden made the Blues pay when substitute Pascal Testroet got in between the line of midfield and defence and unleashed a vicious drive which left Stekelenburg rooted to his spot. Deulofeu, fed again by Mirallas, had one final chance to force the game to a penalty shoot-out with two minutes remaining but took too many touches and eventually saw his effort smothered by Wiegers.
