New format replaces Premier League under-21 competition with age limit raised
Everton face a trip to Tottenham Hotspur in their opening game of the newly launched Premier League 2.
The competition replaces the Premier League under-21 league and is now based around u-23 teams.
Divisions One and Two are made up of a total of 22 teams, 15 from Premier League and nine from the Championship.
Everton will play in Division One.
Over-age players are still permitted with teams able to field one goalkeeper and three out-field players, per match, who exceed the age limit.
The Blues travel to the Lamex Stadium Spurs on Monday, August 15 before welcoming Derby County to Goodison on August 22.
Premier League rules state that each club must play at least three home games at their main stadium and that only three home games are permitted to be held at the club’s academy or training ground.
Everton boss David Unsworth said: “The Premier League are listening to a lot of Under-21 coaches.
“The hardest thing to do at this level is to get everyone on the same page and getting everybody to agree to changes. We certainly feel it’s a step in the right direction.”
