Everton considering ambitious £17m swoop for Kasper SchmeichelLeicester City goalkeeper Schmeichel is on a list of high-profile targets being consideredEverton will explore the possibility of prising Kasper Schmeichel from Champions Leicester City. The 29-year-old is on a list of high-profile targets being considered to succeed Tim Howard as the Blues new Number one. They would face a challenge in convincing the Dane to abandon the lure of Champions League football at the King Power stadium, where he played every minute of the Foxes' historic title-winning campaign. But Everton, who have also discussed other targets including Jasper Cillessen of Ajax, would be able to provide a considerable financial incentive. Schmeichel currently earns £35,000-a-week with the Midlanders and has two years left to run on his deal, but could hope to more than double that at Goodison. The Denmark international is believed to have a £17m release clause in his contract, and after keeping 15 clean sheets last term is considered to be at his peak. Schmeichel already has a North-West base, in the Greater Manchester village of Hale, and is thought to be open to the possibility of a move to Merseyside thanks to the ambition of majority investor Farhad Moshiri and the appeal of working under Ronald Koeman. Leicester have already tacitly acknowledged that they may be without the shot-stopper next term and last month signed German World Cup winning goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler. The 27-year-old joined from Hannover 96 for an undisclosed fee on a four-year-deal. Koeman, meanwhile, has already boosted his goalkeeping options by signing Maarten Stekelenburg, 33, from Fulham. This is the keeper I personally want us to go for, but I don't think we'll get him.
