Middlesbrough confirm deal to sign Colombian defender Bernardo Espinosa• Centre-half to join when contract with Sporting Gijón expires • Everton, Bournemouth and Watford all showed interest in Espinosa Middlesbrough have confirmed they have reached an agreement to sign Colombian defender Bernardo Espinosa when his contract with Spanish club Sporting Gijón expires at the end of June. The 26-year-old centre-half will become Aitor Karanka’s second signing of the summer when he completes his move to Teeside on 1 July, with the Denmark international Viktor Fischer having agreed a move from Ajax last month. Born in Colombia, Espinosa began his career with Sevilla and spent time on loan at both Racing Santander and Gijón before joining the latter in 2013. He has since made over 90 appearances for them and moves to Boro amid reported interest from Everton, Bournemouth and Watford. Guardian
