Funes Set For Texas HomecomingRamiro Funes Mori returns to the region in which he grew up when Argentina tackle United States in the semi-final of the 2016 Copa America. The Blues defender is set to face the tournament hosts when they do battle on Wednesday in Houston, Texas - the State where the defender lived during his teenage years. Ramiro, his brother Rogelio and parents resided in the city of Dallas for six years before the twins moved back to Argentina to pursue their professional football careers with River Plate in 2009. During his time in America, he played as a central midfielder and it was only when he uprooted back to his native Argentina that he evolved into defender, as he explained to Everton Magazine earlier this year. “I have Argentina blood but Dallas is part of my life because I lived there for so long. I went to elementary and high school there,” he said. “Living in Dallas was a very different culture, a different language. It was tough at first…very tough because I didn’t know the language. “When we started school, we found it difficult but after the years passed by, we got used to it. “I ended up as a defender when I went to River Plate, when I decided to come back to Argentina. “I had good height and at River Plate there was already lots of great midfielders. The manager told me to play left-centre back, so that was when I decided to play in that position.” Funes Mori has featured in each of Argentina’s four matches at the Copa America so far, including the 4-1 quarter-final win against Venezuela on Saturday. The winners of Wednesday’s semi-final, which kicks off at 2am UK time, will play either Colombia or Chile in the final.
