Diego Simeone admits he will consider his future at Atletico Madrid after Champions League final defeatDiego Simeone admitted last night that he was considering his future as Atletico Madrid manager after defeat in penalties to Real Madrid in the Champions League final for the second time in three years. The Argentinian, who took over in 2011, said after the defeat that he did not know if he wanted to carry on. “It’s a moment for me to think about things," he admitted. "When you give everything and it’s not enough it’s hard. These have been three wonderful years but I am not happy tonight. I do not know which hurts more, this final or the last one. I just feel for the people who have come to watch us.” Asked whether he was thinking about his future, Simone said: ‘I am planning to think about it.” He said that he did not blame bad luck for Juanfran’s critical miss with the fourth penalty. He said: ‘I don’t believe in injustice in football. Real Madrid were better than us albeit in the penalty shoot-out. The players were tremendous. I told them not to cry after the game because when you give everything there is no need for tears. ‘We have to congratulate Real Madrid. We did not start the game well. At the end both teams were so tired. "But no one remembers the team that loses and it’s a failure that is the only way to look at it. We will just have to go home and lick our wounds. And I need to go home and think.” The winning manager Zinedine Zidane said that Simeone was a “great coach”. “He has shown that throughout his career but I am happy and proud of what we have done to win this cup. As Carlo Ancelotti said to me: ‘if you have a chance to win it as a coach you will see what it feels like'. "It is nothing like winning it as a player. It is very special. I am very, very, very happy to have won the Champions League as a player, an assistant coach and a coach.” Telegraph
