Burnley sign former Everton youngster George GreenBURNLEY have signed former Everton youngster George Green on a contract until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old left Oldham Athletic earlier this season and had most recently been playing for Ossett Albion in the Evo-Stik Premier League.
But Bradford-born Green scored a hat-trick for the Clarets development squad in a training match against Loughborough University earlier this month and has done enough to earn a chance at Turf Moor.
Everton paid £2million to sign Green from Bradford City when he was just 15, but despite appearance for England age group teams he never made the grade at Goodison Park.
"I’m delighted to have signed at Burnley and I just can’t wait to get going," said Green.
"The six-month contract is a great platform for me to start from, to knuckle down, work hard and hopefully that can reward me with a long-term future at Burnley.
"My aim in that time is to just impress and prove myself to everyone, and that’s all down to me now.
"But I know that won’t come easy, I know the nature of the club is to always work your hardest, and I will do just that."
Green's three-year deal at Boundary Park was cut short after just five months and he returned to non league football to rebuild his career.
"I’ve got Football League experience under my belt already, but I want to play at a higher level than League One and I will do my best to try break through to this first team," he said.
"I’m a number 10 who doesn’t shy away from games. I like to get on the ball as much as possible, make things happen and do everything I can for my team to win games.
"I’m only 20-years of age, so I’m still a young hungry player learning his trade. I still have a lot to learn and I know Burnley is the right club to get the best out of me and fulfil my potential."
The highly rated forward will link up with the development squad and Senior Professional Development Phase Coach Michael Jolley is delighted to have Green on board.
Jolley said: “George is a very talented player with a lot of potential and I believe he will only get better in our group of players.

"In the two games he has had for us on trial you can see how much talent he has and he certainly catches the eye.
"He is a very clever footballer who can create opportunities out of the blue for his team-mates and he knows where the net is."
