Mayor's excitement at Everton stadium and Commonwealth Games bidJoe Anderson says talks continue with Peel over 2026 Games bid and planned Everton stadiumMayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson says Everton’s proposed Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium could play a part in the city’s bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2026. The Mayor today spoke at the Titanic Hotel about Liverpool council’s plans to transform the city’s northern docklands into a creative quarter, called Ten Streets. The Ten Streets area next to Peel’s Liverpool Waters £5,5bn regeneration site – and is near Bramley-Moore dock, one of Everton FC’s preferred sites for a new stadium. In his speech, the mayor spoke of the “exciting opportunities like the Commonwealth Games and my own favourite football team that are going to happen in this area”. The mayor is keen for Everton to move to Bramley-Moore but no deal has yet been confirmed. Mayor Anderson said last year that he wanted the city to bid to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games. After the event this morning, asked by the ECHO about what a dockside stadium could mean, the Mayor said: “If the stadium comes off we’re talking with Peel about 2026, the Commonwealth Games, and that’s exciting. “We’re interviewing people. We’ve got some announcements to make shortly about who’s on our team, leading our team. “If the stadium comes off around Bramley Moore then we’re talking to Peel about developing that for the Commonwealth Games. “And it’s an exciting opportunity, an exciting juncture we are at in the north of Liverpool but the whole city.” Bramley-Moore Dock The Mayor has spoken before about what the Everton stadium could mean for the North Docks. In January he said he wanted a new stadium near the docks, which would serve the Ten Streets area, Liverpool Waters and any potential stadium. And speaking at Everton’s general Meeting, he said the potential stadium move was: “The most exciting opportunity this club has had in decades.” Liv Echo
