Everton Ladies boss Andy Spence has taken the “incredibly difficult decision” to quit.Spence, who had been assistant coach of the Ladies team from 2004 before his appointment as manager in 2012, will remain at the club as technical director of the Girls Centre of Excellence.
The Blues ladies side, which has produced top players such as England striker Toni Duggan, was relegated last year, bringing to and end 21 years in the top-flight. He said: “Reaching this decision has been incredibly difficult given my 11-year association with Everton Ladies but, ultimately, is driven by my desire to see the club be successful. “I have been fortunate to have worked with many fantastic players and staff who have helped create some amazing moments that I will always be very proud to say I was a part of – the various cup runs and victories, playing in Europe, and seeing so many of the young players develop. “The current group of players have a great deal of talent and potential. I would like to thank them for all their efforts so far this season and wish them and my successor the very best for the rest of the season.” Nicola Anderson, currently a coach of the Ladies team, will take interim charge until a permanent replacement is found. Bit daft selling all the good players and getting relegated, then quitting because of a few bad games. Mind you, putting up with one woman is hard but a squad? Can't Martinez swap jobs?
