Everton Ladies advanced through to the semi-finals of the FA Women's Cup after a dramatic 4-3 win on penalties over Charlton Athletic. The Toffees triumphed on spot-kicks after the last-eight tie had been locked at 1-1 through extra-time. An 86th-minute Ellie Stewart header looked to have been enough for Andy Spence's side to progress in regular time. But this was cancelled out moments later as Nikita Whinnett converted after a scramble in the box to take the tie into extra-time. The teams could not be separated after an additional 30 minutes and the contest went to penalties. Stewart got the Toffees on the board in the shootout after Gemma Shepherd netted the opening penalty, and both Kim Dixon and Michelle Hinnigan were also successful. The visitors' goalkeeper Megan Lynch then had her spot-kick saved and Vicky Jones scored to give Everton the advantage. Charlton scored their next penalty and Kelly Jones sent the following effort wide of the goal to level the shoot-out. But Sam Pittuck struck the crossbar leaving Simone Magill to net the final penalty and send Everton Ladies through to the semi-finals - just one victory away from Wembley and a second successive final appearance.
