Ok. I get the impression a lot of fans aren't pleased with him and feel that for the price we paid he should be better but I'm going to defend him. I think there are a few factors that have contributed to him underperforming: 1. He was injured and played earlier than he should have so he wasn't 100% fit. 2. He's been asked to play a different way than he's used to. He's more-or-less playing as a target man. Personally, I don't think that is his game. He's better at running at people rather than holding the ball up and making flick-ons. I do think, however, that his hold-up play has improved and will get better over the years. I still think he could bully defenders a bit more but that will come. He doesn't look it and he's been around for what seems like forever but he's only 21 so lets be patient. 3. The whole team has been woeful there's been the odd spark here and there but no one has been consistent for one reason or another so singling him out is a bit unfair. I will say that I think he looks a bit out of sorts for someone who is supposed to be the focal point of our attack he hardly ever gets the ball and our midfielders aren't really looking to play him into space. I feel the team aren't playing him to his strengths. I have faith he'll come good as long as the manager realises what he's good at and focuses on his strengths rather than his weaknesses. I know we spent a lot of dosh on this guy, but I think give him a couple some more time and he will become a really good player for Everton, I sometime forget he is only 21 (looks somewhat older to me - sorry Big Rom ). However, I can understand some people frustrations, but I just feel we need to be bit patient with him - or am I being a bit to kind to him

How things have changed.
GARETH BARRY TELL ROM this - Gareth Barry has told Romelu Lukaku he can achieve his Champions League dream with Everton.
The striker has yet to pen a new contract with the Toffees despite lengthy negotiations and there continues to be speculation over his future. Lukaku has made it clear he wants to play in Europe's elite competition and his agent, Mino Raiola, has refused to guarantee the 23-year-old will stay at Goodison Park beyond this season. But Barry is hopeful his sought-after teammate - the Premier League's leading goalscorer after hitting four against Bournemouth on Saturday - will stick around long-term. The veteran midfielder sees a bright future for Everton under majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri and manager Ronald Koeman, and he is convinced Lukaku can help turn the Merseysiders into a top four club. In an exclusive interview with Jim White on talkSPORT, Barry said: "There have been a few stories over the last couple of years about Rom wanting to play football at the highest level - and that is the Champions League.
"I'm sure he would have had conversations with the powers at the club and they are desperate to get there. With the signings we are making and the manager we have got at the minute, that is the road we want to go. "Sometimes you have to be patient but I'm confident that, if Rom sticks around, Everton can get there."
Lukaku, who joined Everton from Chelsea for a club-record £28million fee in 2014 after a successful loan spell, has netted 78 goals in 152 appearances for the club. Barry admits Everton are 'lucky' to have the Belgian, and is backing him to get even better.
"I don't think I have met a player who is so hungry to score goals," said the 53-cap England international. "He is desperate to keep on improving. He is a great finisher already but he won't stop there - he is working hard all the time. "That mentality he has got to stick the ball in the net is taking him a long way at the moment for someone so young, which people forget. "There is still room for improvement and he has got that personality and character to want to try and improve so I'm sure he won't stop now. He will be desperate to keep on breaking records."

Romelu Lukaku is absent from the team's mid-season training camp in Dubai as he undergoes treatment on a calf problem. The rest of the Everton squad jetted out to the Middle East for a five-day stay yesterday but it has been revealed that Lukaku travelled instead to his native Belgium to visit with a specialist.
The striker's injury is said by the club to not be serious and he is expected to play in the home game against Sunderland in 11 days' time.
